Drop links

Featured Replies

Annoying knocking on the front end so Gunna tackle the drop links on the car tomorrow for the first time. Never done it before but looks straight forward. Any tips or anything i should know before doing it?

Give them a good hit of release spray the night before.

There's normally two flat sides under the boot to get a spanner on to stop the ball joint spining while you undo the nut.

Do one side at a time, rather than taking both off and putting both on.

You might need to compress the strut a bit with a jack under the wishbone to get the new one to locate.

Apart from that, yeah, easy.

Yeah, not hard, unless the frigging things wont release!

Extra tip is try tightening a first before then loosening the bolts..

serious soaking with release spray or shock & unlock before trying.. plusgas is meant to be the best but the several places i tried for it here had no idea what i was talkimg about, and ebay/amazon shipoing charges made it stupid expensive.

If you have a Eurocarparts over there, they do Plusgas - http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/p/car-accessories/car-maintenance-accessories/maintenance-fluids-and-greases/penetrating-fluids/?549774741&0&cc5_857

Nope - have to order from the uk site and pay an extra £10 give or take for the shipping... i try to make a decent shopping list of stuff needed and make it all one big order which can make it work out cheapest, but i had already got my new links and bushes before i realised i may need the plus gas...

I'd check you bottom ball joints first as these are common for failing especially if your lowered

Aye. And, while under there in the general area, new ARB bushes are never a bad thing... just be aware getting the bolts back in can be a pig!
