reversing camera for dual din aftermarket units ?

Featured Replies

Anyone used any specific cameras ?

In my case I have a pioneer double din.

Seem to be some number plate specific cameras but they seem to be sacrificial and take over a whole plate light, but don't seem to have the original connector for the light and not much light room.

I'm thinking Pioneers own adjustable mini cams might be best bet? Should be just P&P I reckon. Thanks

I have one of these connected to my Pioneer HU. It's a straight fit, bolts on, the worst part is getting the wires.

It has an LED near the camera to replace the standard bulb. I've replaced the second bulb with an LED one as well and it does it's job. I'll take a picture for you tonight.

I have one of these, although it was only £10 when I ordered it:

Similar to what Alexandru has said it has a small LED built in for the numberplate light and I replaced the other side number plate light with an LED bulb so the colour white was the same brightness.

It works surprisingly well, I thought it would just be a gimmick but actually very useful to have.

I can't see how this work electrically ?

There is a single red cable only for power - but if you had this go to say, lights on (for number plate lights) then it wouldn't work to give power to reverse would it ??

Or am I misunderstand this and yes, the power is indeed for lights, and it requires no power for the camera at all, which is just the RGB connections.
Actually thinking about it this probably makes sense and why I initially was concerned it wasn't powered for lights but in fact is.

LED power for n/plate no different/better than the original bulb ? If so sounds like a no brainer. Thanks for confirming.

I'd already found this before i asked the question but seriously doubted it might work - I think thanks to your feedback may confirm that yes, it may well work.

Even for just £12 might give it a punt ;)

The number plate light has a connector. You disconnect it from the standard one and connect it to the aftermaket one.

The picture in the ebay ad is not very clear.

You have a live (red) and earth (black) wire, red to reverse lights, black to earth, this powers the camera, the video cable also has a single red wire built into it, one end goes to the reverse lights the other end connects to the reverse camera input on the head unit and signals the head unit to switch the display to reverse camera.

There is also a separate live and earth cable which connects to your original no plate light connector to power the number plate LED.

Makes perfect sense now - thanks for heads up on that.

I'm gonna get one of these for my pioneer and also going to try same on octy amundsen later, that may be more difficult as it doesn't have RCA but this will be good practise for that !

Oh and I need to buy a new VCDS CAN cable for the amunsden fit too :( Hoping maybe a 2nd hand one will come around...
