MkII VRS TDi white smoke and intermittent power

Featured Replies

hi people

I have an issue with my octavia vrs. its a 2010 model tdi and when its warm it's giving intermittent power mainly above 2000 RPM and it pumps out white smoke when accelerating. it had the dpf replaced earlier in its life i'm thinking it could be that starting to play up or maybe even the EGR. there are mo lights on the dashboard at all. really starting to bug me and the performance just isn't what it was. MPG is down aswell struggle to get over 50mpg even with a VERY light foot.

any advise would be really appriciated going tothe garage as soon as bank holiday over but be good to go armed with some info on what it might be!

could be water is leaking into the cilender or leaking elsware or the turbo is starting to play up.

One of two things, a malfunctioning DPF or leaky injectors...

White smoke occurs when raw diesel comes through the exhaust completely intact and unburned. Some causes of this include…

  • Faulty or damaged injectors

  • Incorrect injection timing (could be a worn timing gear or damaged crankshaft keyway).

  • Low cylinder compression (eg caused by leaking or broken valves, piston ring sticking, cylinder and/or ring wear, or cylinder glaze)

When white smoke occurs at cold start, and then disappears as the engine warms up, the most common causes are fouling deposits around piston rings and/or cylinder glazing. Use of our Flushing Oil Concentrate and FTC Decarbonizer address these respective problems.

Water entering combustion spaces will also create white smoke. Faulty head gaskets and cracked cylinder heads or blocks are a common cause of water entry, and are often to blame. Unfortunately, expensive mechanical repair is the only proper solution here.
