Fabia vrs newbie

Recommended Posts

Hello all new to the forum,

Currently own a 206 sw diesel, 03 plate and it's my first diesel.

Use it just a work car with odd day trips out.

Looking to upgrade next year and been looking at Fabia.s which lead to to this forum,

So what are they like day to day? Boot space etc? Mpg?

What things should I be looking out for?

Mileage wise?

Really like the black or silvers ones ,

Probably will be looking at getting a 05 or 06 plate,

Any tips or comments ?

Welcome aboard.

There is masses on info on the Fabia vRS here, it's been collecting since its launch in 2003.

Any answer will of course be a personal view but the best advice is check out the classified section on here first. Buying a car from another forum user is probably a safer bet that eBay or Gumtree etc.

There are plenty of pitfalls, suspension bushes, flywheel, gearbox, turbo, wheel bearings, electrical gremlins are all common as the MK1 is getting pretty old now. This is reflected in prices though with them being pretty cheap for what you get. Try and find one with a documented history and that has had the work done by a competent tech.

Interesting last bit, seen as the majority here would avoid Skoda mechanics like the plague  :p

That's mostly because they charge so much rather than any particular lack of competence, our forum members are notably parsimonious on the whole (I include myself in this).

Skoda mechanics like me?

Certainly wasn't a Skoda mechanic that replaced the console bushes on my saloon, what a mess.

I find that due to the mk1 fab being 9-13 years old, the techs that are in place now are probably decent on current cars, but it maybe that the VRS mk1 gen of techs have jumped ship or retired etc. There are so many reports of poor diagnosis of simple issues from Skoda on here, that it cant just be my own experience. Also have more of a diagnose > replace, then test and repair mentality*. Im sure your a good um, it wasn't a personal statement, but a general one.

* Misses has a polo, thats parts covered on warranty. There was a error 71, it was flagging up biometer error. Instead of checking a sticky throttle body/ Map senor, they cleared the code and said if it comes back on let us know and we will replace the throttle body to start with ...

Wow man, i had to google that one :p

Full Definition of parsimonious

  1. 1:  exhibiting or marked by parsimonyespecially :  frugal to the point of stinginess

  2. 2:  sparingrestrained
