Second Superb Still No Joy!

Featured Replies

As the title suggests.

Had my first superb from Sept last year. Returned to VW finance due to various faults.

Bought another ex demo. Had it 2 days and same noises again!

Not as bad as the L&K that went back but bad enough. No joy in driving it due to the noises. Worse when the car is warm not cold.

I'm not going to try and get this repaired under warranty. I'm simply going to phone up the dealer tomorrow to arrange when I can return the car. I have 30 days or 1000 miles to return the car.

I'm more anoyed that the dealer knew all the problems I had with my L&K that they would check the ex demo. The noises must have been present while being used as a demo.

I can't be that unlucky can I? Or is there a genuine issue with build quality and parts?

I would be really interested for you to replicate the issue on camera / audio, so others can at least hear / compare / confirm.

Admittedly,  i must of only done 10 miles max with the radio off in silence but didnt hear anything which i would be concerned about.

?

What were the various faults with the first car?

What type of noises is it with the second car?

Did you not ask for an extended loan of the Demonstrator when you intended buying it and listening for noises yourself?

Im not going to start recording again as I did that last time. I'm just going to give the car back. I actually test drove the car with the sales guy. There was a rattle from the vents on acceleration. I asked if he could hear it and he said yes. Due the car being cold on the test drive that was the only noise.

On the way home when the car warmed up was when I heard the noises.

I'm pretty sure it's something to do with the DSG system.

On acceleration you can actually feel the vibration on the foot rest peddle.

I'm just really am sick of it now. It can't just be me. I've never had trouble with any of my other cars apart from a 2005 Audi with DSG.

I thought I'd go for a 190 instead of a 150 which I had before due to different clutch systems but it's made no difference.

It may also be on higher millege cars. This ex demo has 11k on it and my L&K had 16k

I misunderstood, i thought you had maybe bought Ex Demonstrators after the Dealership had them for 3 months or over 3,000 miles then sold them.

?

Are these Ex Management cars / Ex Skoda UK Lease or hire or possibly Fleet Cars?

This is a ex dealer demo but the business manager used it as his company car. That's why I'm annoyed because clearly he must of heard these noises.

I did call him yesterday and he said don't worry it's covered under warranty.

So just another Skoda Approved Used Car, not run in with any care or attention and likely no better treated than a 'Hire Car'.

Maybe best just reject as well.

He is quite a Business Manager, one that i would tell where to stuff his business.

Ive just drive 50 miles to the airport to pick someone up and it's not good. The car is also pulling to the left. Maybe tracking or balancing? They probably hit the kerb a few times

Return the car, this is not acceptable and the manager who used it must have been aware of the issues, which if he was any good, should have got rectified whilst it was under his care.

As much as I am happy with my Superb, if I had had your experiences, then I would call it a day, two bad cars would kill me off completely.

With your experiences to date, you will never be confident with buying another Skoda, the bad seeds are planted and it will always be on your mind.

Sorry, I'm slightly confused here. Having had one bad car that you returned, why didn't you insist on an extended test drive for the second one to put your mind at rest and how didn't you feel the car pulling to the left on the test drive?

Tonydo, I feel for you buddy. How frustrating!

Just take it back. Test drive another Superb (up to temperature) to double check it isn't a 'they all do that' thing.

If not, perhaps give them one chance to fix it? Would be a shame to ditch a great car over an issue that might be fixable.

Best of luck either way!

I actually can't be arsed anymore. I contacted the dealer who is 2 hours away from me. The Brand manager at the dealership said he heard no noises from driving the car for 10,000 miles.

Hard to believe

I didn't feel the need for a extended test drive as I thought my first car was a one off with the problems and no way could this happen again.

Spoke to the manager and told her the scenario. She said bring it back and we will get a senior tech to go out with you. The 30 day return policy applies if the car is faulty and has been diagnosed by their head tech and not a head tech from my local dealership.

Hence the " I can't be arsed"

I'm not ****ing about taking it back and forth to dealers.

I'm just going to wait and see what problems other people have. I'm sure this will be a common problem soon and maybe have the car recalled for a fix.

Dont understand why you just didn't get a refund for the first Superb and go and buy something else.

All diesels vibrate a little, you dont really get rid of that until you get up to something like an S class Merc.

If they think its acceptable and not a fault, you'll struggle to get a refund.

Just have to hope they've had enough of you and set you 'free'.

Hope it works out.

Demo cars are always thrashed to within an inch of their life , keep well away

Update for you guys.

You wouldn't believe it but it's been into Skoda Derby again. The noise was unbearable. Apparantly it was poorly insulated air con pipes and there is a recall out for this.

I picked up the car and drove home and the rattles were still there. I took it back to Derby and spoke to the head tech. Firstly he couldn't believe that I've been so unlucky and had to bad cars. He said he will work day and evening to resolve this.

Update as off 7.30pm yesterday evening. Complete dash are and infotainment system has been ripped out. They can hear the horrid noise but cannot pinpoint it. Now in contact with the Skoda Factory. On Monday they will start to strip the engine down.

I'm so gutted and financially this is costing me a fortune!

Really feel for you, Fingers crossed that dash goes back in rattle free.

This is unbelievable, and seriously major work, and the fact that Skoda have no idea what the cause of the issue is, is very worrying.

There have been a few people on the forum that have suffered minor rattles etc, but not as bad as the issues that you have suffered, when you say they will strip down the engine, why !!, having removed the complete dash, are they now saying the noise is being generated by the engine itself, or the auxiliary equipment attached to the engine or surrounding the engine bay.

At this point in time, I think I would say to Skoda that this  car is also not fit for purpose, and insist that they take it back, I totally feel for you and really cannot believe you bad luck.

Why?

Skoda didn't go out intentionally to 'install' the rattle, in fact as with most manufacturers probably spend a huge amount of time and money designing components so they don't rattle. What do you expect them to do, suddenly say 'oh yes, here's a fix because we built it like that'.

What matters here is how they deal with it.

Please don't get me wrong here, Skoda produce a great range of great cars, I am lucky enough to have two Skoda's, my company Octavia SE Bus 2.0 TDI DSG and my own new Superb SE L exec, I have covered nearly 15K in the Octavia and it has been 99% faultless, quiet, bloody quick with the DSG , no rattles, only issue I had was the rear windscreen wash pipe parted company in the passenger foot well, main dealer new about the issue, well documented on various sites, and it was put right.

So I am very pleased with my cars, but we all understand that sometimes thing go wrong and in particular when new models come on to the market there will be teething problems, my thoughts are for TONYDO is that he has had two cars with major issues, I believe that the best way Skoda could have dealt with this is to have given him a loan car, take his car back to Skoda HQ and use this car to determine what and why these issues have occurred and what had to be done to put them right.

This would also have given them valuable data into any production issues that may have caused these problem, this could then be transferred back to production to ensure that the issue do not occur on new production vehicles.

All being well they would be in a position to fully rectify TONYDO's car and return it to him without faults, and what a fantastic opportunity to show customer commitment and care, and would give us all great confidence in customer service.

Just my own personal thoughts guys.
