The list is not as comphensive as previous cars missing out colour, seats, core spec etc.. However my main focus is to compare the spec compared to owners who don't have the towbar.

The towbar upgrade cost included the cost of the factory fit, plus upgraded coolant system,upgraded battery and alternator.

I would like to see if these addtional parts are fitted.

Part2 Will be photos of the alternator with part numbers.

Edit.. Not possible to see the part number of the alternator as where the voltage regulator is bolted on to it , it's covered by the block.

Smaller Battery - expected due to petrol over diesel for CCA.

 

However a bigger alternator ?   (with no towbar)

im still not convinced they provided a bigger battery, alternator and uprated cooling system like it was detailed in the brochure to justify the cost of the factory fit tow bar.

 

Is that miss-selling or just crap documentation ?

 

A retro towbar kit costs around £550 all in.

I think the brochure says alternator, battery and cooling are "optimised" for towing. I don't think the parts are actually any different.

I posted a photo of our battery (towbar-equipped car) and I think others without towbar said it was the same type.

On the configurator, it says "Includes preparation of the following vehicle systems for optimised operation whilst towing: alternator, battery, fan and cooling system."  Perhaps that means that those systems work differently on factory towbar equipped cars by means of different ECU settings rather than having different components?  If that's true, and its a bit 'out there' as a guess, it might suggest that recoding after fitting an aftermarket towbar would also 'optimise' those systems.

 

Mine has a factory towbar too so I can't offer any info on the codes.

I have just checked the July 2015 PDF and it does indeed state optimised.

I misunderstood it when we ordered ours - I assumed bigger alternator/battery/radiator.

Don't regret getting the towbar though, it's so simple and well designed.

You don't supply the VIN, just the option codes. These can be found in a sticker under the boot floor or your service book.
