dpf and low mileage

Featured Replies

Please help .. and apologise if this has been asked before .. I'm looking to but a vrs .. was going to get used petrol but have found a very high spec diesel vrs .. problem do about 8 miles a day doing school run .. through a town and a bit of country side .. then once a month a burn up down the m5 from the Midlands to Devon to see me folks .. am I best to get petrol so don't get dpf issues with diesel due to low mileage ..

I'm new to dpf's with both my wife's and my octavia and to be honest not had any mechanical issues with them but know there was historical issues in previous generations. However that said both cars do seem to need to do very regular dpf's regens which does seem to affect the mpg significantly (although I don't have exact figures calculated).

I'm not sure if the evidence exists of major dpf issues with the mk3 octavia but with the mileage and low speed nature of your regular drive I'd think it would be looking to regen often - losing the the benefit of the mpg from having diesel.

You should probably test drive both but my thought would be to look at the petrol vrs as the premium for the diesel is probably offsets the extra cost for slightly lower mpg/more petrol over several years, plus it's the full on power vrs (the 230 even better!) and guys here have seen nearing 40mpg out of there's I believe - your probably would t get more than mid 40s with the diesel and your regular drive.

Don't get me wrong, i do enjoy both our diesels and they are good cars but neither belong to us (or we have to tax / maintain them) and we have different driving durations to yourself.

Also with all the questions over Nox output there maybe a backlash against diesel coming either road fund licence or fuel duty.

Not a VRS but still a 2.0TDI.

6-7 miles each way to work, 50% urban, other 50% country lanes.

2.5 yrs of ownership, 18k miles, no DPF issues whatsoever.

Interrupted the cleaning cycle a few times (fan runs on after engine switched off and you can feel the heat it's dissipating).  Not a problem.
