Glow plug indicator flashing

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have a skoda octavia 2001, Y reg.

I took it into a garage after I noticed the glow plug light flashing. It was put on a scanner and i was told that the glow plug was okay and something else was at fault.

Under the fault codes two things are highlighted:

DTC 18062 Fault codes in instrument controller

                   Intermittent

DTC 00562  Oil sensor

Short circuit to positive or open circuit

                    Permanent

Can anyone suggest what would be necessary to nail this down? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I did notice yesterday that after i left my car that one of the back lights stayed on and on return i realised that i'd left the indicator lever down.

Possible electrical fault?

Have you checked your brake lights? glow plug light also acts as an indication of brake lights not working correctly

The glow plug light can be activated by a plethora of fault codes, i'm not sure why they decided that would be a good idea, it just confuses people.

Did they scan the the instrument module to see if they were more specific codes? It may just be a bad connection between the ECU and the instrument cluster.

regarding the oil level sensor, you could have a bad conention/wiring fault or it could be a faulty sensor.

The lights staying on isn't a fault, its the parking light feature

Checking on the numerous forums a repeating factor for 18062 comes up with a link to coolant temperature sensor fault. The 00562 might be a fault with the bonnet open micro switch or associated wiring, as the ecu thinks you've opened the bonnet to check the oil, but that is usually accompanied with the orange oil level light. If you purchase a CTS make sure it's a genuine part. You will need CTS, 'O' ring and clip (as they are prone to breaking).

If the indicator left in when parked - front corner light and rear marker light on the indicated side stay on. Its a safety feature for parking in gates and the like to make car more visible without leaving all lights on.

Must be something in the air....

bringing my ALH over to my indy guy this evening, glow plug light started flashing at me on my way home from work! Not sure, but it seemed to start just after i stopped and bumped over the crappy kerbing into a lidl's car park on way home. no running issues - idle is even, revving fine pulling fine.. ugh. Annoying.

its just due a service(about 1500miles over due as i havnt had time) was planning on that next week. So get it plugged in assess the faultz

Also find it weird that i changed the battery only yesterday. Almost exactly 24hrs before plug light started flashing

FWIW - vagcom scan - brake light switch fault. And the light randoml stopped flashing during the 3mile drive to my indy. Going to change switch next week with the service.

only code that showed up too, so happy days given the old girl is now up to 188k
