Rattles!

Featured Replies

Loving my new s3 but do have a few annoying rattles

Before I take it to the shop I need some help locating one

I have an unknown rattle on passenger side (possibly rear)

As well as:

Driver seat belt rattle

Really annoying Columbus fascia rattle

Any thoughts or people in common?

have you read this?
NOISE IN REAR SUSPENSION
on the second page you will find recorded audio sample, dealer can't solve this yet

even in 9 attempts

Bizzarely all my rattles have now vanished on their own !!

That's good, personally the odd squeak and rattle wont worry me provided its not too intrusive, no such thing as perfection, I expect a £2m Bugatti Chiron isn't perfect, no such thing as an absolutely fault free house despite potentially costing tens of millions and I know its hard to believe but even I am far from perfect!

By the way, how are you getting on with your lovely red 280?....still months I expect before mine materialises.

Exactly Mr W.... Yeah love it. It's a great machine. Makes me smile every time I drive it. The performance it intoxicating and great fun.

Happy with the colour. Looks great when clean. I'm hard pressed to think of anything I don't like....

I do have that potential problem I highlighted in the steering thread I made but I'm not really a worrier. Like you I don't expect perfection. I just get on with it and enjoy !

Cars coming up on 6 months old now..... I have a 5 year warranty so what's to worry about ? :-) I don't relay on the car for anything. It's just a toy really. I could walk to work every day if I wanted.

:-)

Glad you are enjoying it Mr H, likewise for me regarding the car.....I don't need it, but I want it and will probably only use it for the occasional jaunt out in nice weather with my little dogs.

Check all of the torx screws that hold the glovebox in.... mine was rattling like a bast*** until i tightened them all up, they all tightened about ¼ of a turn.

So far it has made the car silent again  :sun:

I've noticed my centre console (the one with the armrest built in) squeaks. Usually when going round a left corner and thus my hip is leaning into it. It's not so bad after 24 hours from new, but if it carries on I'll be nipping back to the dealership. No other rattles to report thankfully.

Did you manage to get this sorted out. Mine is doing the exact same thing. The squeak is coming from around the cup holder and also where the join is between the front/rear section of the console. Dealer has had it twice now for this problem and the second time they told me they checked 3 other Superbs including a brand new one and they all did the same thing. So based on that, they did absolutely nothing to sort it out. I call bulls#*t on that.

It wore off after a couple of days so I didn't bother mentioning it to the dealer in the end. Sorry you've not had better luck. It seems 'They all do that, sir' is a typical dealership get-out clause.

I surprised the dealer didnt spray copius amount of grease into all the trim joints...;)

A weird cracking noise drove me mad, apparently coming from around the rear side of the center console. Turned out to be a red (paper? plastic?) washer squeaking in the bottom side of the passenger seat, just take a peek from the rear footwell - the washers are apparent in the joints of the height adjustment scissor mechanism. A squirt of WD40 took care of it.

My cupholder trim rattled and creaked too. The dealer sorted that one. I have found the interior quality of the superb is lacking and the plastics are thin and poorly fitted.

Did they replace the cup holder??

No it was not replaced , merely reseated as the part was not broken. I think the job was done just after lunch owing to the use of used toothpicks as shims around the trim to stop it creaking.
