How good is my car?

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm new to Skodas and have a Fabia 1.4 MPi 2001, I just want to know basically what that means and how good of a car that is. Thanks!

Drive it. Own it. Find out. Are you asking people to tell you what to think? I assume you bought the car based on some knowledge of its reputation so what more do you need to know? Perhaps a more specific question about likely issues or running costs might be more valuable...

Anyway........ It's a 1.4litre engine on a 2001 plate and is Multi Point Injection (Mpi)

As to how good it is depends on many factors. It's all depends on opinion really and what you personally think about it. If it has plenty of service history and drives nicely then it's a good car. If it's breaking down all the time, is rusty and is generally a turd then it's not good. Either way it's what you have and I doubt you would have bought it if it wasn't good?

Sorry, what I meant was how good is my version of the Fabia compared to other Fabias from that time. Not mine specifically. I just bought it thinking it was a normal Fabia then found out there's lots of types.

I have the same model. The 8 valve OHV engine was carried over from the old Favorit and Felicia. In fact, it goes back even further than that to the old rear-engined Skodas! VAG did some modifications to the engine for use in the Fabia, including hydraulic valve lifters, so no need to adjust the valve clearances under normal circumstances. They are pretty slow due to their ancient design but are reliable enough if looked after. They are not particularly economical but are a lot better on a long motorway run. The gearbox is a VW unit. The rest of the car is pretty much the same as any other fabia - a decent, well-made but dull car (apart from the vRS).

I'm sure you know that they are more or less a VW Polo under the skin.

Thanks. That's all I wanted to know.
