Driver's seat collapse

Featured Replies

Ok so the driver's seat in my 97 felica has collapsed. I took it out to have a look and rather than finding a perished cushion discovered that the thin metal membrane that holds the foam in place had snapped and the spot welds holding it on have broken free. :(

Do I...

a. Go to a scrap dealer and get a whole new seat

b. Get a more comfortable seat out of, say, a golf and fit that? (in which case will it slot straight in or do I need some kind of adapter plate)

c. Replace the steel membrane. (can this even be done?)

d. Any other ideas?

TIA for all your help

Prime Time For Some Quality Bucket Seats I Think

find some flexi marine plywood and remake the base, too thin your bum will bend it (not saying you are fat of course) not 1cm grade try 5mm

cross it both ways, reason it needs to be thinner, just wedge it in should be ok, but dont cut to exact size 1cm too long so it pushes the seat pad up, you sit, it pushes down but wont pop out. bodge job i know but it worked for me.

should be Ok ?

i did this once on a rover ...... i magine an elephant had it b4 me? the seat was well shot only one old bed spring thing and that gave out after a few months.

Cheers skoda.fr I may just give that a go. By 'cross both ways' do you mean two strips of ply arranged to form a cross, or something else? Also, does anyone know whether any of the golf seats have similar fittings to the felicia?

i mean like an old chair, cris cross

as many strips as fits

not an exact method but hey fun fixing stuff for a quid and not 300 eh?

hi , i would say go to a breakers and try and buy another seat .
