Today, I drove the new Porsche Cayman S

Featured Replies

And MY GOD WAS IT AMAZING!!!!!!!!!

One of my close friends calls me up today and tells me he's takin' the Cayman out for a test drive...so I say okay, whatever, thinking he was kidding....but kidding he was not! He turned up outside my house with a beautiful, silver and pretty loud Porsche Cayman S!!!

Got inside....oh wow...all leather...grey leather with a white-ish element to it...a hot leather three-spoke steering wheel...mmm...nice seats too, though they were not the sport ones apparently...I don't know how much sportier they could get, they looked and felt pretty sporty to me...tiptronic gearbox...with shift buttons on the steering wheel...interiors were much better than the usual Boxster or Carrera you run into that once in a while....

Okay you know what, forget the interiors, lets get to the point.

It is f*ckin' fast! Wheel spin on first gear (duh), but the grippy tyres held the tarmac pretty well.... 300 hp and 255 lb-ft of torque...good enough torque that alot of the time I was starting from 0 in 2nd gear without noticing...hehe...yeah, took off from 0-100km/h in less than 5 seconds!!!Floor it hard and the engine absolutely screams like a maniac all the way to over 7,000rpm...I had all eyes on me everywhere I was, because it's so loud, so low, and so fast...and it's just been released here.... I hit 150km/h in absolutely no time! In-gear acceleration is amazing! Floor it mid-range and your head snaps back real hard! Does a Fabia vRS feel like this with 300lb/ft of torque???If it does then I know what all the craze is about!

Handling? Like a dream. The best handling car I've ever had the pleasure of driving. With the wide 265mm tyres, low centre of gravity and tweaked suspension with its strut-type suspension and stiffer springs, you can do corners with it you can't do with any other car. Not even the 350Z handled like this... seriously. My oh my...I love that car. And as excellent as the handling is, so is the ride. The strings are stiff but the ride is comfortable. The ride in my car is much harsher and uncomfortable, it was excellent in the Cayman!

That's one ride I will never forget. I've driven the 350Z, but man, it's the first time I've driven a Porsche, let alone the latest model. I'm thinkin' it won't be the last. The 350Z was very fast, but I don't think much of that ride anymore, like I usually do with cars. Mini Cooper S Works, wow...what a ride...Golf GTI MK5...wow...what a ride...350Z...wow...what a ride...but the Porsche Cayman S....man, it really is a true sportscar. More than any other car could ever be.

I doubt a Fabia feels like a Prosche cockster

See above ;)

Is it safe to say you liked it then, Mil?

How come we never see photos of your little adventures?

but needs 4 wheel drive?

Sounds like a nice car Mil.

Isn't the Cayman like a budget 911 style car. Note "budget".... Still about 40k if I remember right.

I like the sound of it though. I don't think 250lb/ft quite feels the same, with the backing of 300bhp either. Sure its nice, but 300hp is excellent.

...interiors were much better than the usual Boxster or Carrera you run into that once in a while.....

Isn't the interior borrowed from the Boxster?

I loved it. Absolutely loved. It looks a million times better than a Boxster, I've always disliked that model.

I don't carry a camera with me but my friend took some snaps with his phone camera. My phone has a crappy camera so I never bother.

It comes in between the Boxter S and the Carrera 911. It's priced at about 32,300 pounds worth here...a 300BHP 350Z is 21,500 pounds worth.

Nope.

Nope.

Strange, I'm sure JC said it was when he drove it on TG.

Edit: You're right does look better, I must have dreamt the TG thing.

2nd Edit: I was right the first time it's the same as the Boxster, just looked on the Porsche website.

It has had top write ups.

I've been in the Boxter. The interiors are not the same. The Cayman's is much more refined.

It's a hot car, and like already said, it has had absolutely excellent write-ups.

Have you been in the current boxster or the old one?

It was an older model. Why? It changed that much???

Here you go:

The new Boxter is a fine looking car IMO. I'd rather have that than a Cayman

They used to say the Boxter was the poor man's Porsche 911 - so what is the Cayman?

But don't you see how much more refined the Cayman's is? Look at the Instrument board light blocker thing in the dash...the one in the Cayman is almost like the Merc SLRs....:D

Yes I can see now they are similar, I din't know they changed it....Cayman's looks better :P

It's a new model Boxster with a roof. A colleague's just ordered a Boxster and compared the two in the showroom.

That's about the only difference and it's only slight:

What we are all really dying to know though mil is..........

Yes actually, the brakes are excellent on those, unlike the Fabia.

Now come on girls, put your handbags away

...hmmm....

Handbags at dawn ?

Basically the Cayman is bang smack in the middle of Boxter and 911. Its half way on, performance, price and looks all in all a great car

I didn't know you had a thing for pink leather :gay:
