oil change

Featured Replies

i have a (2005 Octavia 2.0 tdi 6speed dsg pd engine) that's getting up in miles now 145k everything seems to be fine apart from the dmf i am having replaced.it is now coming up to a service i use the long life 5x30 fully synthetic like i should do but i still like to service my cars every 5 to 6 thousand miles i have always done it that way with all my cars.i was just wondering if it would be a good idea to use a 5x40 still long life and fully synthetic ? am i right in thinking that this would stay slightly thicker at high temp and be a little bit better for a car with higher miles?

cheers kev.

As long as it meets 505.01 or 507.00 spec.

but would it be beneficial to the engine or would i be as well just staying with the 5x30?

If it meets the vw spec it should be ok. If not your taking a chance.

I personally wouldn't bother.

Any potential benefits will probably be so negligible that you may as well just use the right grade stuff.

P.s. hope you had your DSG oil and filter done 5k miles ago too.

The higher the second number the heavier the oil. Downsides, this will effect warm up times and fuel efficiency. Upside it will quieten the engine and not burn off as quick if your engine is using oil.

5w40 vag 505.01 spec will be fine and probably cheaper, especially if you are changing it every 5-6k.
