Amundsen plus

Featured Replies

I can't get my Amundsen Sat Nav + (version 0136) to ignore unclassified roads when there are A & B roads adjacent. Tried all three route/colour options.  More savvy friends have tried and also failed. After checking about 10 other sat nav systems including google maps mine is the only system that continues to direct the car up 'rogue' back roads. Still using my old Tom Tom which seems so much more reliable. The unit ts being checked by a dealer next week under warranty.

Worryingly, I 'm led to understand a software upgrade will not necessarily solve the isssue. Has anyone had a similar problem/can anyone offer any advice please?

Thank you.

I once had a lexus which tried to send me from the Channel tunnel to Le Mans via farmtracks -it turned out I was trying to drive in france with settings to avoid toll roads and it was tring to get me off the autoroute by increasingly desperate means.

Have you got the 'Shortest Distance' option selected in the preferences?

Yes, I/we have tried shortest; economical et al + all other settings. Frustratingly still uses unclassified roads?

try rebooting it - remove fuse 8 i think, check in manual for about 1-2 mins, might work, has solved other issues with the unit fitted in my adventure

We were out in the Cotswolds last weekend and it told us to turn onto a Byway!

And quite often the display in the Maxidot doesn't match that in the sat nav. This morning for instance, the Maxidot was showing straight on at an island, 2nd exit, whilst the sat nav was showing left, 1st exit, which was the correct route.

It's always islands which are the problem. And it's not the angle of the exit off them either, as you can see the other exits in the Maxidot, it's just showing to leave on the wrong one.

I would have gone for it!!

On my trail bike I would! Must be one of the very few legal routes left in the Cotswolds now since NERC.  Given that most were RUPP's and most if not all  are now outlawed.

There are a few BOATs still in the Cotswolds, mostly quite short and "tight".

I prefer finding all the fords!!

Yeah, but not very many unfortunately, and there's so much road work involved it's not worth it any more. Irony is that many of the RUPP's are now overgrown due to lack of use and maintenance.

Quite a few BOATS in Warwickshire and surrounding counties but still too much road work involved. I live in the wrong place for trail riding etc. and have all but given it up now.

Best get back on topic now!

Yes please!. I've had months of `lip service' from Skoda Uk & dealers on this matter. To get to a point where the sat nav is going to be looked at has been a challenge. Comments thus far very much appreciated.

That's quite normal for a lot of satnavs. It has to do with whether there was a driveway/byway turning before your exit technically making yours "2nd" exit and also the angle of entry on-to and off-of the rountabout that causes the directional instruction in the maxidot to render incorrectly.

That could certainly be the case on one island where it gets it wrong. But on another it's just your bog standard, four exit island with all exits at 90 degrees, so it's got no excuse!

I find myself double checking the route on the sat nav screen so it rather makes the Maxidot display a waste of time! As well as blocking a lot of the usual displayed information e.g. temperature, average consumption etc.

Temperature is displayed on the Amundsen too, and if it drops down to 4 degrees will over-ride the maxidot for a few seconds accompanied by an audible alarm.

It's not displayed above 4 degrees though is it unless I'm missing it, which is what it is for a significant part of the year. My wife often asks what the temperature is and I reply that I don't know as the sat nav display is blocking it out.

There are also times when I want to look at other information - it's a pity that you can't scroll through the other screens when using the sat nav or disable it in the Maxidot, or can you?

About time I had another read of the manual!

You can display any other information in the MaxiDOT while using the sat-nav, it's just another screen of information that it can display.

Thanks Urrell, I was missing it then! In my defence I wasn't expecting to see it on the sat nav screen. That will keep my wife happy!

I've tried scrolling through the Maxidot screens before when using the sat nav but nothing appeared to change. Then again I do have an intermittent fault with the RH thumbwheel which I'm getting sorted when it goes in for its first service. I'll have another play on the way home.

Tried it on the way home and initially no good. I'd assumed that when the sat nav was used and therefore the Maxidot activated that the display was part of the MFD.

The penny dropped when I went into the menu and saw MFD and Navigation.

Been quite a day. Adblue warning came on, can see other info. and I've seen the pen holder in the glove box!

There can't be anything else for me to experience/find out about!

To view other things on the Maxidot while navigating you need to press the menu button on the MFSW to go back. You can then choose whatever Maxidot function you want to display.
