ECU fault codes ?

Featured Replies

Have just successfully switched on my fog lights to act as DRLs in North American mode with Carista (hurrah), so thought I would also scan for fault codes, and these 2 pop up (have removed a lot of irrelevant info) ..

ECU info obtained with Carista 3.0 beta-9 for Android:

VIN: <snip>

Heater & air conditioning

Part #: 1Z0907044R

Coding: [none]

Component: ClimatronicPQ35

Fault codes:

00716 Air recirculation Flap Positioning Motor (V113)

---

Central electronics

Part #: 3C0937049AJ

Coding: D18A0F230004140000110D000000000000187F073C000000000000000000 (hex)

Component: Bordnetz-SG

Fault codes:

01800 Light Switch (E1)

Any idea what these mean ? Should I be worried ? Everything seems to be working OK, no apparent faults that are obvious.

Thanks

Mark

They may be intermittent faults which occurred ages ago. But Carista doesn't seem to show that level of detail. Clear them and see if they come back.

OK, I have cleared them, will be interesting to see if they re-appear later on ..

Thanks

How easy was it to set fogs as DRL with Carista I'd like to do the same. Can you tell me which bluetooth device worked ?

Aparently you can try resetting the vent flaps by turning ign on to position 2 and pressing and holding the Econ and Recirc buttons at the same time. I've not done it myself.

Actually very easy ... thanks to the advice of the kind folks on here.

I used the latest (beta) version of Carista on an Android Phone, together with a ELM 327 Bluetooth Adaptor (like this one) ... Only reason I used Android rather than Apple (and I have access to both devices) is that the iOS version is v2.6, but the Android version of the app (in beta anyway) is v3 beta 9 - so probably has more functionality.

This is what I done (original instructions came in a PM from PerformanceDiesel and forum advice from silver1011)

  • In Carista, select headlights only then select drls as fogs on.
  • Then brightness should be an option after that.
  • They default to North American mode, where the DRL's are on with the fogs only, they switch on when the handbrake is released, and switch off when the handbrake or main lights are applied.

Just remember that when activated in Carista, they won't work until the handbrake is released.  Sounds silly, but I had activated them, and was wondering why they weren't working ... then I realised the handbrake was still on :(

As an aside I've also used Carista to activate automatic door locking when the car is in motion, automatic unlocking when the key is removed, discreet chirps when the alarm is activated / deactivated and a few other minor adjustments.

Thanks for this Cornish_lad,  I'll give it a whirl.

When you say '' In Carista, select headlights only ''

Do you mean you select DRLs to headlights first, then after change to Fogs?

Yep, there are a couple of options under lighting ..

Firstly select headlights only as DRL's then save that - then there is a different selectable option that says use Fog Lights as DRL's, choose Yes to that - then look for the option that allows you to select fog lights brightness - it's like a circular dial ..

Would post screenshots from Android but am at work now ... But shout if you get stuck

you can almost bet money on the flap coming back even if it's actually working

Well I've done the 'Econ and bottom left' button reset procedure .... not sure if it has made any difference as haven't scanned again ... but then again I wasn't noticing any problems with the Climatronic system anyway.

As for the 'Central Electronics / Light Switch' fault code - I'm wondering if it's anything to do with the fogs being used as DRL's ?

Will scan again next weekend, just out of curiosity .. don't want to get too paranoid about fault codes that aren't causing any problems.
