power supply without ignition on

Featured Replies

This has got to be a silly question, but I'll ask anyway.

When the ignition is off, is the battery supposed to feed power to the radio, electric seat, etc?

I know that the cigarette lighter sockets are always on, but it struck me when I was able to turn on the radio and adjust my seat without turning the ignition...

Somebody please enlighten me :)

Yes they have a permanent supply to them.

I'm not sure about my Superb, but on other cars I've owned things like the radio etc have had timers which have allowed you a certain amount of time on after the keys are taken out.

The radio can be programmed to operate independently of the ignition - I have done this. The damned thing still cuts out during cranking though, a truly idiot design.

rotodiesel.

Major consumers such as blowers, heated rear window and radio are all connected through the X relief relay. The X relief relay cuts these items so the starter motor gets all the voltage/current so it can start.

Quite good to know when diagnosing multiple issues on a vehicle.

Absolutely correct. The radio is hardly a "major consumer" though....

Nope, but I guess with a cold Diesel engine every little helps. Also cuts out the indicators but not the hazards, another one to watch for diagnosis.

The radio goes off when you turn the ignition off but you can then turn it back on using the radio on button

Wow, they thought about this but couldn't work out how to make them watertight... <facepalm> [emoji1]
