Rear windows steaming up ?

Featured Replies

The rear passenger Windows and also the ones behind them seem to be steaming up quite easily on my 16 plate vrs estate ?

Is this a common thing or is it because of it being a new car etc.

I've also noticed that when I open the rear doors the bit that you step over to get into the car is always wet on both sides of the car ?

Any body else suffer with this of have I got an issue ?

Hi mate. In a word no. My VRS estate hardly ever steams up and although I get water holding under the front doors, (well known issue but I don't lose sleep over it to be honest) I never have any such thing with my rear doors.

Silly question, but what setting do you have your aircon at? The Octy has moisture sensors which, with the setting on AUTO, automatically ups the input from the aircon when and where necessary. I am constantly on AUTO save for a few mornings when I have a front screen blast to defrost it. But as soon as that's clear, straight back to auto.

Both are reported issues on here. I have the steaming up issue, dealer replaced the sensor, still does it. It seems to be a timed issue, where when it's wet out, after about ten minutes, the car start steaming up slowly, blast cold air and it clears but guaranteed in ten mins it starts again. It's like the software shuts off the compressor for a while, which allows the humidity to spike. Someone here worked out a vcds tweak to lower the setting of the humidity sensor that fixes it

I have the blower on fan speed two and blowing on the windscreen all the time.

The Windows only steam up when it's raining outside.

The front screen or Windows never steam up or does the rear screen that much.

Here are photos of the wetness I am talking about ........

I must add that the front doesn't suffer with holding water ?

The doors have rubber seals all around, so you will get some damp retained on a wet day. Seals help with noise and keep the area clean.

Just run the climate on Auto around 20°c and just leave it, car will always be warm and dry.

The aircon compressors are smart these days, only run when needed and don't use much extra fuel at all.

The pics above show what is there on a dry day. The fronts are totally dry.

I've never experienced it on any other car I've owned.

Ditto the steaming up, I've never had to have aircon on to demist Windows in any other car although I know it can be used to do it.

Someone mentioned it may be that the Windows need a clean inside as the car is new ?

My understanding is that the air-con should be left on by default. Leaving it off for long periods through the year can result in perished seals and pipework.also limits the bacteria build up.

what he says! ;-) leave on auto at 20 and see if this is any better.

Never had an issue with the car steaming up. Yesterday on the way back from the football, three adults with wet coats in the car and raining outside. Still no issue. Aircon on 20 and auto.

As I recall, new plastics release a chemical which deposits on the windows and acts as a nucleus for condensation. Suggest you clean one window with a good glass cleaner and see if it remains mist-free.

This made my issues much better. I use e-cloths and distilled water rather than window cleaner.

I still get the same issue as the OP with everything on auto and temp set at 19.5 with the climate control set to "strong" but just not as bad when the glass is cleaned.

I'm sure I read somewhere on here about a vcds tweek that can be made to help with this but I can't find it. Perhaps someone here knows of it.

I notice my windows are more prone to misting up when I haven`t cleaned them in a while. Like the 2 posters above, give them a good clean and see how it goes :D

I noticed mine doing the same last night and it wasn't even wet. Only had the car a few weeks so given the windows a good clean tonight, seemed to be some residual marks from when it was delivered. Hopefully things will improve

hi bud. If not the aircon, how did you used to demist your windows in previous cars?

Also the "gunk" that comes out of the system in new cars can muck up the windows too, which will affect the way they steam up, so there is some truth in that.

Maybe giving them a good clean and seeing if that improves things would be an easy win if it works.

Is post #25 (humidity sensor) there post you referred to?

I use soft white paper towels and glass cleaner or isopropyl alcohol to clean my glass and it really does help with condensation. I use white towels and it's surprising how much muck is picked up and how many times you have to turn the towl until it stays white.
