"Service Now" keeps coming back

Featured Replies

Hi,

Recently bought a 2012 2lt diesel Superb that had a service done at the point of purchase. (FSH and under 50k miles) A few days later "Service Now" message came on. Reset it and then a few hundred miles later it came back on.

Any suggestions on why this might be and what might be done about it? (Do not really trust garage to give me a helpful response so would rather see what advice there might be out there in the hope that I can find another way forward)

Thanks in advance for any helpful replies that might come back.

How did you reset it?

HI

I used the buttons on the steering wheel. I went into the service option and clicked on the reset option.

Any additional information other than that message? There are two separate service counters: one is mileage based and the other is time based. They could both be hitting within a short time of each other.

Another possibility is that the oil sensor is acting up and making the car think it needs a service when it's actually fine. I'd suggest finding someone with VCDS or similar and seeing if there are any error codes?

I have that popping up on my 3.6 petrol - but it also says the next service is not due for another 10,000kms or so??

I'm ignoring it although I might change the oil as its done a fair few in the past year.

Was the car bought from a garage. If so then give them the problem. If not then I see your predicament.

Hi, I've my superb almost a year and that same "service now" message comes up every 120 miles. It's extremely annoying, but i've learned to go and reset the MFD about once a month. Take it to a garage or someone with a VCDS to reset the service interval.

Is the car set to variable servicing? They probably didn't reset the counter properly, and doing it via the steering wheel, IIRC, is only good for resetting fixed services. I think.

I know I've had this problem on my 06 Octavia once - and it was the main dealer no less who completely forgot to reset it.

You can reset variable servicing cars with VAGCOM - that's precisely what I did and it stopped nagging.

HI all

Thanks for the replies. I am not hearing any horror stories and the theme seems to be to get VAGCOM/VCDS or garage check/reset. Will do so and post on here the outcome, might not be for a few weeks though.
