Memory Cards.

Featured Replies

I have just bought a cheap Gopro copy for the car.

As soon as i got it i put in a cheap 2gb micro SD.It captured 10 mins of my trip. And to be honest pretty crap image quality.

My query is will the memory card quality brand play any part in making it better?

If it don't my son's got a sj4000,lol.

My laptop is HD,and i'm removing the SD card and plugging it into my laptop.

Looking at these

The SD card won't make any difference. The camera lens and capture quality is what's at fault really.

To be fair, the SJ4000 should actually be a reasonable image.

Have you got it recording in the maximum image quality/frame rate?

If your memory card is a really low speed, the camera might also not be able to record full quality to it as it's too slow to write the data to.

Actually...where did you get it from? Although the SJ4000 is a cheap Chinese camera, there are poor quality copies of even that.

Have you got it set up to record in the highest quality?

You want at least 16GB, I am surprised it would even accept a 2GB card, most I have seen wont work at all with less than 4GB.

RTFM and see what card class and size it suggests; if it says class 6 or 10, then try a class 10, but if you have issues try a class 6 - some cheap cams have issues with some brands of class 10 card.

There are ways to get around the artificial Windows limit on FAT32 formatting, so even if it says 32GB max, you can almost certainly use a larger card; I have a cheap  cam that states 32GB max, yet I have had 64 & 128GB cards working in it.

As above, if the card is really small, the cam might select a lower rez file size; also - I have noticed improvements after a few days of use with a number of cameras, I suspect some kind of coating on the lens, under the scrap of plastic they cover them with, that evaporates off after exposure to sunlight.

It's set at lower 720p but more frames per sec...so should be reasonable for a dashcam.

SD is very old non branded.

I fear it may be a copy what's best way to tell?

Software says SJ4000 version not sure without looking, not with me at present.

Thanks

Where did you buy it from?

If it's a genuine, then I'd guess the card is a really low speed, and the camera is adjusting to suit.

Second hand so originality can't be confirmed.

I bought a SJ5000 recently (the same plus wifi) and have been quite impressed with the quality at 720p.

Also bought a 32Gb Kingston micro SD card Class 10, and that is working fine with the camera.

The only issue I have is with the ability to communicate with my iPhone via an ad hoc wifi network. Works OK in the same room, but drops off quite quickly as you move through the house. The software is also quite clunky for this feature.

As for the camera, it's a DB Power copy of the SJ5000 copy of the GoPro. For 1/5th of the price, I'm happy with it.

When you turn it on, what graphic is displayed?

Usually a manufacturer logo appears for a few seconds.

Does it have a box?

You can check if they are the original SJ cameras.

No box.

When turned on it's similar picture that Gopro use at the end of their advert's.

I bought a 32gb from tesco.I'm yet to look at the footage.

Typically i had a minor bump on route to tesco, foreign taxi driver. He never stopped either had to give chase.Reported him to police.

So i'm in need of heated blue glass.   :(

Looking at the home site,i think it's a copy.

Also looking online at some of the footage, mine seem's very zoomed in.

If a car passes me on a bend it would almost not come into view.

Could be that the camera is just cropping the image from the sensor to get the lower resolution, rather than resizing.

As far as SD cards go I don't think cheap ones are worth the risk. I'm using Sandisk Ultra 16 and 32GB cards in my Mobius and SJ4000 and have not had any problems.
