Does the "VRS" badging actually mean anything or is this just a generic name for the sports versions of Skoda cars?.

Thought it could stand for "Very Rapid Skoda" or perhaps "Volkswagen's Rancid Sister"!.

Essentially its just RS - Rally Sport - in other countries. But due to copyright or similar issues, Skoda added the V in the UK. IIRC, its the first letter of the town the Skoda factory is in.

Skoda Auto has a number of maufacturing sites in the Czech repblic, The Octavia RS (Mk1) and some other but not all Octavias are made at Vrclarbi only a coincidence to the v in vRS that the UK use. The fabia RS is made in Mlada Boleslav along with Octavia's not RS. The Superb is made at kvasiny.

The Octavia RS is only marketed in this country as vRS due to the Ford threat at the time of the Focus RS launch as it holds a copyright - Skoda Auto have used the RS designation well before the current octavias. The Coloured V/ is actually Skoda motorsports emblem and stands for Victory. No other country uses the vRS designation and all brochures state RS and I think RS owners will see in there log books it shows Octavia RS as the model .
