Car 2008 Octavia 2  1.9 PD        BXE

Recent new fuel filter, MAF sensor, turbo, EGR valve clean.

Ongoing poor running problems and occasional starting problems.

The poor starting / failure to start had gone away but has returned.

Engine died (Hot)  and refused to restart, did start later using technique of repeatedly cycling key from off to run (keeping it in run position for a few seconds) without starting engine then after doing this about 3 times turn key fully to starter.

This is not a guaranteed start technique but it seems to help.

At the start position I can hear a noise from uplift pump in tank so it must be doing something.

I am thinking this points towards an under performing uplift pump, faulty one way valve, or some other fuel supply restriction. - Would welcome your thoughts though.

Having mentioned the one way valve, I presume there must be a one way valve somewhere in the supply line but I can's see it, where should I be looking?

Thanks

I know the t piece on the top of fuel filter splits drawing on air on start up causing air lock and trouble starting, i replaced one on mine , it was however £22 ish from stealers

Thanks but had a look and this appears to be one of the ways in which the Mk4 and Mk5 platform cars differ. Octavia 2 is MK5, assume your bora will be Mk4. No T piece on top of my fuel filter.

Pity as a £22 fix would have been great.

Had another look at pipes, hoses and joints between filter and tandem pump can't see anything amiss.

Thanks again though and any other suggestions welcome as both self and garage are stumped.

Not to mention self seeing red at every mention (and there are many) of the bulletproof nature of the 1.9 PD engine.
