Squeal from rear wheel

Featured Replies

My mk2 Octavia squeals when I move off. Quite sure the squeal is coming from the offside rear wheel. Squeal seems to go when car warms up (not 100% sure of this). Also, definitely no squeal unless moving (squeal present when reversing too). Had both rear brakes pads replaced about 6 months ago. Callipers probably what car was fitted with in factory. Both rear callipers looked corroded but I'm not sure if it's just surface rust.

Anyone got any ideas what it could be? Any checks I could do myself?

I would be very grateful for any help.

Sounds like the brakes are dragging.

Chock wheels and jack each rear corner up with the handbrake off. If one wheel spins and one doesn't then you know that Brakes are binding.

Thanks guys. I don't have a proper jack, so I'm going to get the car looked at in an official Skoda dealer garage. Hopefully the damage isn't too severe and I don't need a complete pair or discs, pads and callipers.

Garage have had a look at it and can't find anything except a bit too much rust on one of the front discs which they're going to clean up for me.

Re quality of the brake pads, they're Bosch. Is it the Bosch pads which are problematic?

I've got the same at the moment , it will disappear when I get the stone out of the calliper.

The garage said there would probably be a stone in one of the callipers, but when they got the car up on the ramp and had a look, they couldn't find any stones.

Garage strip brakes and can't find anything except that one of the front discs is a bit pitted.

Car wasn't making squealing noise when I took it into the garage this morning, but guess what it did as soon as I got it back?!

Still getting this squeal and it's getting worse. Anyone got any ideas? When the car was having an air con service yesterday, the garage did a health check and recommended having the rear brakes cleaned. But this is what another garage did in April and it didn't fix the squeal. Both garages are officially Skoda.

Anyone got any ideas? Anything I can do to try to pinpoint the problem?

Still getting the squeal. Someone recently told me that it could be the brake line in one of the callipers hitting the disc which moves up again once the car gets going and then moves back down when the car has been idle for a while.

Does this sound feasible? Can I easily check to see if this is the case?

My 2012 VRS does this from cold especially in reverse and turning. I hear it as a rear disc squeel but it goes pretty quickly after a few pedal applications. Had it down as overnight rust. Might be wrong but doesn't worry me whilst it goes away quickly. If they squeel when you brake and the pads haven't worn to rivets, isn't there an anti-squeel paste you can put on the back of the pads where the pistons touch?
