Rumbling noise from the front right on my brand new A7, please help

Featured Replies

My A7 has done about 2500kms and its a month old. From day 1 i've noticed that even on good roads i constantly hear a rumbling noise coming from the front right side(driver's side) suspension area.
I took it to the dealer and they pretty much tried everything to diagnose the issue.
1.) Swapped the tyres
2.) swapped the suspension
3.) swapped link rod

Nothing seemed to work and the noise is still there.(Its faint but definitely audible if one concentrates )
I dont think its a wheel bearing issue because i cannot believe that a brand new car can have bearing issues.
I TD'd another A7 that had done about 12000kms and there was a faint hint of the same rumbling noise even in that. However there have been other A7s i've driven but havent found this issue.
Could anyone please let me know if you are aware of this noise and what could be the problem?.

The dealership is asking me to drop the car off for a week or so to do R&D and figure out the issue, i'm apprehensive to do that for a brand new car.
It would be really helpful if i can get some insights into the problem, or anything i can do to perhaps narrow down to the issue?

Welcome!

Yes, they can.

+1.

Mine had only done12k miles when it developed an annoying pulsating from the front n/s.

Dealers tesst drove it with me and took it in under warranty.

Findings? Duff n/s bearing.

I had a new clio that needed wheel bearings after 20K of sensible driving, you can just have a duff one, even if it is audi. Sit in the passenger side to see if the noise changes, as the seating position can play tricks on the ear, locating noise.

Thanks for all the responses,

Thanks for the welcome as well. :)

Coming back to the issue, yeah i did try sitting in the passenger sides and yet the noise was coming from the front right only.

Though a possibility of a knackered bearing occured to me , i was a bit too optimistic in expecting a brand new car to have such a problem.

Now that i'm observing it more closely, i find that the usual noises that a broken struct/tie rod, wishbone, link rod are not there(when driving over humps) i'm beginning to believe that it may be a bearing issue only.

One thing i didn't test was to jack up the car and simply rotate the wheel to hear bearing noise.

On another note, how hard is a bearing replacement?

Can it be done in 2-3 hrs?

I left mine with the dealers at 9am and went home (about a 30 minute bus ride). They called at 1pm to say it was ready. I wouldn't expect all dealers to be the same though - differing workloads etc. but I thought 4 hours wasn't at all bad for a largish job given that it's annual service took the same amount of time.

yeah get the bearings checked I have had 2 replaced on my passenger side front and 1 replaced on my driver side front, from what  I was told it comes as a complete hub so its a relatively simple swap.

I've given the car for R&D (as scandalous as it may sound, that's what was told to me).

Unfortunately skoda as a brand in india hasn't encountered this issue being reported by many customers and if i'm to believe what my service adviser has to say, i'm the first guy reporting this issue :)

The car is going to be inspected by some "more technical" guys from the manufacturing itself and they will revert, is what i've been told.

Fingers crossed!!

Thanks for all your help guys!

Tough luck guys,

After spending nearly 3 days at the service station they were not able to diagnose the issue.

However I drove 2 other A7's and believe it or not the same rumbling noise exits in both of them.

One had clocked around 9k and another 12k.

So looks like this is a genuine operating noise.

Thanks for all your help. Happy to be here

Have you been able to figure it out?

My A7 has done 27,000K and there is intermittent noise ( cut cut ) from the front right, probably the suspension or bearings. Car was sent to dealer twice, but they could not figure it out. I asked an online startup ( garagely.in ) here in Delhi, to inspect the vehicle at my house.

The mechanic tightened all the chassis & suspension bolts and the noise was gone. However it returned after a few weeks.

Planning to have all the bolts rechecked / tightened again.

Hi Rkhshm

Any updates on the problem?

Iam facing the same issue with my Octavia a7. Done 13000 kms. There is rumbling noise from the front right wheel.

Did you upsize your tyres? I did and I am trying to figure out if the issue is due to wheel upsize or a manufacturing defect.

Hi durgesh,

No looks like it's a design issue with A7.

I spent 2 full days with service and they were not able to solve it.

I personally think this is an issuethough, insignificant.

I have contacted Skoda HQ I'm hoping that they will revert and I will directly show it to them.

But don't worry it's not abig issue because I heard the same noise in many a7.

The noise in my car gets loud on highway making the drive uncomfortable. Also there are pits on the inner wall of my front right tyre "heel-toe wear". Have you checked yours? Wheel alignment and rotation has been done on regular intervals on my car.

The first guy reporting an issue is the same sort of bull they use in the Uk skoda dealers
