Procedure for checking oil

Featured Replies

Hi

Just wondering about checking the oil, historically it was always a case of when engine is cold, take the dipstick out and wipe followed by reinsert and then wait a minute before checking.

From reading the manual it says it needs to be done with the engine at operating temperature, how do people preventing getting burnt as surely when at operating temperature the oil is red hot (100 degrees).  Or do you wait for the engine to cool down a bit?

Having done 1000 miles now I am thinking it is time to check the oil levels.

Thanks

drive, stop, wait five minutes, remove dipstick, wipe, reinsert, remove, check, top up if required.

This thread reminded me to check mine, thanks! Not used a drop as it turns out.

...not forgetting on level ground.
