RARB installed (with pics)

Featured Replies

So last night we fitted a new H+R RARB to my Fabia vRS Estate! Already had H+R lowering springs so thought this would be a good addition. Lots of postive reviews on here so took the plunge and ordered one. The car was fantastic fun around Castle Combe recently but still had quite a lot of body-roll to contend with despite the uprated springs so decided it was time to go for it. Dave (sharkrider) has been encouraging me to get one for awhile now haha! :D

My brother did the majority of the work as he is very handy at spannering and I'm definitely not so much... :)

Few pics of the process. We raised the back of the car on ramps to get better access:

Next step undo the bolts at the bottom of each damper:

Then attach one end of the RARB using the longer bolts provided:

Next lever the other end of the RARB into position and insert the corresponding bolt.  This bit is quite tight! :

Next apply some copper grease to the rubber bushes:

Dirty boy :p :D :

Next mount the bushes on the bar and attach them to the rear beam using the supplied clips. This bit was the hardest of the entire installation! You have to bend the clips into shape to get them to fit over the beam which isn't easy. We also then found that the bolts (M8 hex 70mm I think) supplied werent long enough to close the clip! Had to go and buy some 10mm longer ones which was a pain but did the trick...

Tightened everything up and all done!

Was quite late (and dark!) by the time we finished so only got to have a quick 10min blast in the car to check all was ok but first impressions very good! No creaks or rattels so far and the ride quality is unaffected as you would expect. Didn't notice any huge change in the handling though to be honest, allthough it was only a brief drive so too early to report back on the benefits. Will update once Ive had a chance to thrash the car some more and get stuck in to a few bends! :p

nice job :) and you will notice over time, massively... especially when pushing on!

It had to be done. You will definitely appreciate it now better weather (hopefully) is on the way.

I've got the white line bar on mine along with B8 Shocks & H&R springs. Transformed the car.

Where do you even find the damn things? I can find online stores selling front ARB's or front plus rear but can only ever find the rear on its own from white line. Also am I wright in thinking the jabba sport RARB's don't fit mkII's?

Just a pity about using Copper Grease when fitting.

Awesome GTI sell the H+R rear bar on its own. I ordered through them off their website.

most online places stock the H&R RARB..... try some of our sponsors ;) awesome, AP automotive, even demon tweeks I believe! I bought mine second hand (never fitted) and it was an old part number.... made for the mark I vRS (slightly different shape to clear the mark I spring cups..) but still fitted and worked... had great communication from H&R in Germany about whether the bar would go on my mark II as they were listing a different part number for the mark II (the bar Tom has fitted, which doesn't drop in shape so much at the back....)

here was mine (still owned by a brisky member now) you can see a bit of a square space for the mark I spring cup to sit! lol...

I put the H&R front anti roll bar on too with polybushes.....

made it handle brilliantly :)

What's the snag with the copper grease George?

We debated not bothering as the bushes are made of rubber anyhow but decided in the end to chuck some on lol

One slight concern I have is how far the RARB drops down below the level of the dampers. It's reduced the overall ground clearance by a good couple of inches and is very visible from behind the car.... Don't want to get the bar snagged on anything or end up beaching it on a speed hump or curb....

never happened to me, and mine was lower (being the mark I version!)

Odd as I can't find them although the mobiles sites are rubbish. Not a purchase I will be making straight away as Tyres are required first anyway.

Have the Whiteline myself but probably the best money I spent on this car. Slightly different design though. H&R seems to drop lower, at least the bended part of the bar, and Whiteline uses some U-clamps over the rear axle to secure the bar onto it which were quite straightforward to install. Strangest thing is that you needed to go buy bigger bolts, but hey if it works as it should!

Well spent the weekend blasting around some awesome twisty roads near me in the Furby vRS. The H+R RARB has made an amazing difference when nailing it around the corners! Absolutely epic piece of kit. I was a little sceptical at first but it has definitely proven itself to be a top buy :-) In day to day use and when driving the car "normally" it behaves exactly as it did before but when you start to get stuck in it really shines. Feels a lot more stable and planted, body roll reduced and front end turn-in far sharper. Very happy bunny! ;-)

You were definitely right Dave! You definitely have to drive it fairly hard to uncover the rewards. I think from that perspective the springs possibly offered better value for money as you can feel a significant upgrade immediately even on normal driving. Plus they make the car look a lot better too ;-) The RARB is awesome though, can't fault it, provides a lot more fun and confidence in the car when unleashing the fury!

Thought it sat quite low when you posted the original pics.

Not sure how it would hold up around my area it's speedbumps galore :dull:

Yeah it is quite low, the springs definitely add to that lol.

I think speedbumps will be ok. Mounting a curb (or dropping down off one with one wheel is probably best avoided tho! :-)

A9X SJ,

you might indeed find some of the ridiculous Speed Humps in your area made as Asphalt mini mountains an issue,

& even some mini roundabouts which recently seem to be getting raised higher to stop people cutting across them.

Have you any rear pics of the white line to compare with the h+r?

Whiteline wins on being tucked up but the bolts looks real close to the sidewall  :dull: maybe just the pics

H&R wins on colour
