Oil Temp

Featured Replies

Just curious to find out what oil temp other diesel vrs owners are showing, having never owned a car before that shows the oil temp (only the water temp), i was a bot worried when i saw 97 degrees on the drive to work this morning.

I have checked the oil level and its spot on, maybe this is a normal temp and i should not be concerned. I had previously been driving on a motorway at 50 mph due to traffic, maybe that will make a difference.

If you push it then expect temperatures in the 120's!

Definitely normal temperature. In normal driving I've seen mine anywhere between 85 and 110°C.

I'm pretty sure the oil is cooled by the water  anyway, so its never going to be much cooler than 90°C

It is normal as it`s oils so it has got higher boiling point :nerd: , but to be honest I was surprised when I saw 105 on mine the first time  :D

Back in the "old days" - before synthetic it was very important to keep the oil temperature below 135 deg C.

Above 135 deg the oil would break down.

This could be a challenge in petrol turbo engines when the turbo had only oil cooling.

A fully synthetic oil hasnt any problem with 150 gr C.

In todays engine it is even more important that the oil isnt to cold!

Be happy every time you see that the oil temperature is above 100 deg C.

It needs to be above water boiling point to burn off all the deposits and water vapor.

I had a Nissan Cherry Turbo a few years ago which I used for road rallying (night events). I once did a hill climb with it, oil temp was over 130 degrees after a few runs!

Last summer mine got to 140 going over the Alps!
