Audi A4 warning light help please

Featured Replies

A friend has sent this pic of a warning light on her dash. I'm going to scan with my VCDS and post the results but haven't had chance yet.

Am I right in thinking its a transmission problem due to the cog symbol. Apparently it still driving ok and apart from the warning light everything appears normal. Thanks in advance for any help.

Which gearbox does it have, the Multitronic?

What does the Owners Manual tell her about that warning light?

Sorry to be vague but I only have the picture to go off until I go round and have a look. But I will be taking my laptop and vcds to do an autoscan.

This is more of a punt to see if someone has had a similar problem. I know many forum users have other marques as well as Skoda.

Yes.

But that Warning Light is not common on the Audi A4, or in any manual for it.

It likely refers to the Multitronic box.

Give us a wee clue, what age of A4, what fuel does it drink, is it an Auto.?

EDIT.

Since it is in 'P' it will be.

I was just going to say the 'P' Parking Light would make me think its and auto not a manual. As far as fuel sorry no clue until I see her I would hazard a guess at diesel though.

Quick google says - "automatic gearbox warning light".

Also that it may be in limp mode and driving the car may be a bad idea.

And a diesel. Look at the rev counter.

It'll have no bearing to the Audi but many of our buses have the same warning light, it means the gearbox is overheating. I'd assume a gearbox issue.

Just ask her to scroll through the menu until she gets to the error message.

Well thanks for the replies. I took my VCDS to scan her car at the weekend but when I got there the mysterious light has disappeared. She said the

car was driving normally so I just advised her as the car was ready for a service anyway to take it to the dealers and show them the picture

when she has it serviced.

Gearbox oil change sounds a wise decision, as a precaution and peace of mind, at least.

Has she had the car long and well familiar with driving an auto.

The fault would still have shown up on the log, no? Whilst you were there?

If the DQ200 7 Speed Twin Dry clutch DSG Overheating warning light shows, it does not then show in the Codes if you scan.

They are not a DSG that requires Oil changes other than the one that gets done if it is part of the

Service Campaign Recall Actions.

?

What Automatic or Automated Manual was in the Audi  A4 with the warning light?

Was it a Multitronic (CVT)?

What age of car?

It was a 59 plate but I didn't scan the car because a mate of hers had already scanned it using a phone and and obdii dongle and cleared the dtc's (I think) but she said the light had already gone off prior to that.

The googling I did brought up a lot of mentions of sensor errors. The sites were older though, posts from about 10yr ago mostly.
