280 exhaust!

Featured Replies

What do you guys think about exhaust sound from the 280? The new golf R sounds pretty good for such a small engine, does the skoda get a similar sporty sound. I got just a little bit disappointed when they turned away from the 3.6 v6 engine. That machine could at least sound like a proper sportscar. Anyone tried to fit a aftermarket system like militek, revo, ferrita and so on? Would like to here your input on the different from stock. Does it sound sporty or does it more sound like you have a hole/crack in the original system?

It sounds ok and in keeping with the car. Remember it's not pretending yo be a Golf R. Wind it up and and the sound is ok for a 4 pot I was pleasantly surprised. I especially like the little flap that opens and shuts in the exhaust...

Whatever it does :-D

I'm hoping that the R isn't too noisy, & we can get the soundaktor switched off permanently.

The R estate is a little odd, it keeps the 2x2 pipes from the hatch, but 'cos there's more room at the back of the car the rear

system is different, & the inside pipes are cosmetic.

At least they stay clean, unlike all 4 on my old Superb which are all blackened. ....

Exhausts blackened ? I've seen it but never had a problem. It does look bad.... When I clean the car I always do the exhaust with Solvol then spray it with WD40. Seems to keep 'em in decent condition..

I like them to look grubby, it's suits the "Q Car" look!

Nothing I can do about that .... My OCD kicks in ... Only works on the car though ... Not when it comes to dishes, hovering etc etc ...

Where did you learn to hover?

There must be real money to be made if you can sell personal levitation..............

Been able to do it from birth DC.... Used in conjunction with the walking on water it comes in very handy ! Mrs wasn't to happy to find the '666' stencilled onto my scalp though ...

Of course, the Virgin Birth scenario, explains so much...

Keeping secrets from the wife is never easy, as I'm learning for the 2nd time around!

Have a good week, maybe join the masses for a nice bank holiday drive over the weekend, or would that clash with the tour of Yorkshire?

I'm really excited about your input on religion and vacuum cleaners, but on a scale from

1-10 how does a downpipe comper against a Hoover from first testament?

Seriously guys, have someone here exchanged parts or the hole exhaust system ?

Off to the East Coast in a static caravan.... My idea... Looking at the weather I'm not sure it was a very good idea .... Heated pool though for the little 'un .... Crap weather plan is offspring in pool. Me and Mrs sat by pool... Her reading and me playing games on the iPad :-)

Might try Eco as well on the way .... Not sure i'll be able to stick it out though ...

If the weather improves we might venture down to darkest Kent, otherwise it;s indoors in the warm.

Same for the cars, tuck them up in the garage until summer arrives.

As for what how they sound, that will have to wait until it's warm enough to open the windows or drop the roof!

Forget Eco, you know you won't like it, & as for the East Coast, take winter clothing with you!

Have fun, DC.

Sorry!

FWIW I'm not impressed with the 280's exhaust noise, it's too loud for that class of car, IMVHO.

The Golf R is better, quite civilised in normal driving & better suited to the car's image when extended.

I find that most people are so far behind me when applying lots of throttle that they don't hear the noise for more than a second or two

That's strange, I find it to be not loud at all.

Do you have the 280 or did you test drive one?

So far, two test drives, about 1.5 hours driving time.

Probably long enough to form a 1st opinion.

This I can believe........

It's the noise inside the car that bugs me, I really prefer the interior of a Superb size / class car to be as quiet as possible.

The extra insulation obviously adds cost & weight, but I'd expect an L&K to be the quietest available Superb.

Very strange, did you drive the same car both times?

Mine is quieter than my wife's fabia 3 1.2 tsi 110

No, earlier this year but perhaps a month apart, & different dealers too.

FWIW we managed a back to back comparison between a vRS 230 & an L&K 280, both estates,

on the same day & roads, & the Octavia would have been my choice!

Better value & very little difference in the MFGV.

What was surprising is that my current Superb was quieter inside than either of the two new cars, & the exhaust is much quieter on the outside too.

Perhaps I should keep the old girl for another year or two?

Does anyone have the part number for the 280 exhaust flap actuator please? I'm trying to find out how many pins the plug has that fits into it because i'm intending to blank these off when i get my new back boxes.

Thanks for this Roscio.

I've been reading on the audi forums, and some s4 owners have removed the spring from under the actuator so that the flaps can't move. I might give that a go.

I've gone for the remus axle back from the cupra 300 estate. What have you gone for?

I've gone for Supersprint rear boxes.

Can't you just remove the actuator?

I just coded the flaps to stay open on mine with vcds

I tried that on my MY19 272 and it was having none of it! The control module would not accept the changes unfortunately. I've seen that S3 owners have had the same issue.
