19" Xtreme owners - what OEM tyres did they come with and how are they?

Featured Replies

I got Pirelli P Zero on mine and they seem great on lateral grip in wet and dry but putting the power down in the wet they seem to struggle with traction on the front wheels and even in the dry it is easy to light them up with a careless right foot

Seem noisy too, but not sure how much of that is just the 19" size and the lack of cabin sound proofing!

All but brand new, so too early to be replacing but was looking at options today out of curiosity and the 225/35/19 seems to be an unusual size here in NZ and thus decent rubber is expensive...

When the time comes, will probably look at Michelin Pilot Super Sports - pricey but they seem to be the business. Anyone run these?

Same here - my MY16 230 came with pirelli's on (19 black xtremes).

I'll be looking for Pilot super sports or goodyear assymetrics when it's time to change.

There is lots of discussion about tyres on the 'Boom' thread. IIRC the general view is the tyres are bought and fitted in batches, so the OEM tyre can change depending build date.

If the black extremes are just too extreme for me, is there any point / is it possible to change their colour?

ISTR that when the extremes were listed in brochure as a standalone option they were available in anthracite rather than black,

which might look better on a 230.

I'd also be tempted to get the mirror-caps repainted in the body colour, anything to make the car less obvious!

Any good wheel refurb place will pretty much be able to do whatever you want regarding colour / finish.

Personally I think they would look great in shadow chrome!

I'm finding the same as the op my wife's 15 plate vrs seems to wheel spin a fair bit, does this model year have xds? It seemed to work well in the scirocco r I once had and thinking ahead I think I'll be changing the Pirelli's for some goodyears once all four need replacing

Should have the basic XDS as far as I know - does that have an impact on torque steer or wheelspin though? I thought it just applied brake to the inside wheel on hard cornering?

The 230 has the fancier electronic front diff which probably does help.

mine came with pirellis too. i disliked them so much i changed them before 5000 miles i think they are suited to a heavier car as my brothers audi s5 has them and they are decent on that

What did you swap them for and what difference did you see?

Run both the pirelli's and UniRoyal RS3's ( about 2000 mile on the Pirellis and about 2500 on the RS3's). The RS3's are quieter that's for sure, even my other half noticed. Grip from the RS3's is very good in the dry, and very impressive in the wet. They also seem less prone to spin than the Pirelli's, to in their defence I might just be more use to the car.

Hmm - Uniroyal don't seem to be in the market here in NZ.

My Best options seem to be Conti Sport 5, Goodyear F1 AS or the Michellin Pilot Super Sport...

First two are decentish value but I hear mixed things. The Michellins sound great but are a huge chunk more expensive. That said, I often see 4 for 3 deals here so could try and time one of those when the replacement was nigh!

i swapped them for goodyear eagle f1 assymetric 2's. much more grip in both wet and dry conditions

That's good to know - easily available here and a fair whack cheaper than the Michelins!

How were they for noise?

Road Noise is not too bad , the sound proofing on the Octavia is ok but not as good as Audi it's easy to see they cut costs here.

Here's a question for you lot:

Can I put 235/35/19 tyres on the 19" Xtreme rims instead of the OEM 225/35/19 or must they match/fit exactly?

There seems to be a broader range and they are often slightly cheaper in the 235 width!

Yep for the 235/35's I've just fitted some onto mine. Think they work out at 5mm bigger in diameter. rides lovely and looks spot in

Is your speedo out by much because of this difference in diameter over stock?

It's actually more accurate. At 70 on the sat nav is showing about 72 on the digi display. With factory spec it was showing 74 on digi

Interesting! Thanks for that.

Good to know that the speedo is still on point after as well.

  • 3 weeks later...

Will look at swapping of the Pirelli P Zero's to the Eagle F1 AS2's as well when needed.

Had these before and loved the tyre!

Hard to get hold of as they've been replaced by asymmetric 3s rim protection is smaller on the newer tyre, I've just rotated mine and I'm gonna need a pair so I'm going for conti sp6's which are the same price as the Pirellis
