Ticking under load - garage say it's been remapped?

Recommended Posts

I had only done 500 miles in my Octavia when the injector failed. I got the Injector replaced by a "specialist" - they are on this forum. Even since the car now ticks under load (1,500 - 2,000 RPM on wards). I've taken the car back to them, they've had it now 5 days and they are saying that the car has been remapped and this is potentially causing the problem. The car never ticked before this injector was replaced.

They say that the injector is 100% OK and that they've checked it.

I've been waiting all this time and they are now saying they don't have the stock MAP for my car and somebody else they use to get it don't have it either..

I asked him how they know it's mapped and he said just by driving it they can tell - they've not plugged it in. I asked for them to dyno it to confirm and he just said well that's £69..

They've not been helpful at all and everything I suggest they just give me a price for it basically they've had my car 5 days and are now saying  we can't do it whereas when they started they said they could).

Where do I go from here? He said if Skoda have any updates for my car they will update it and that will automatically put the stock MAP back on - is this the best route now?

Failing that does anybody have experience with getting Skoda to map back to stock without any updates available and maybe a price and do I just call my local Skoda?

I don't want the car mapped to be faster I just want it to be fixed - I didn't realise it was mapped when I bought it and I bought it from a dealer, not Skoda.

My car is a 2010 Skoda Octavia 1.6 CR Diesel - is it affected by the altering of emissions and can I get Skoda to update it on those grounds?

I very much doubt a remap would cause ticking, can you smell any exhaust fumes at all in the cabin or potently under the bonnet? Every time my old car (Vauxhall Vectra) starting ticking the first place I looked at was the injectors and saw that one or even two of them had build up around the tops of them and needed resealing.

I don't think there are many other parts that can cause a ticking sound that you describe

In my mind it is definitely Injector related, it was not making any noises that it shouldn't before I took it to the garage they replaced the injector and now it is ticking. What he said kind of makes sense maybe a map was done wrong and this new injector is now off with the others or can't handle the new fuel flow or something? and taking it back to stock might fix that.

I told them it wasn't ticking before and basically he said it came to them on a recovery truck which it did and they didn't drive it before putting the new injector in because it was un-driveable.

The car drives normal it's just making a ticking noise. I've not driven another 1.6 Diesel but the car doesn't seem overly fast to me..

Another option would be to put an eco tune on it but make sure it's a live data tune, that way the person monitoring the remap will see problems straight away

Take it to another garage, get them to test the injector and if its faulty.ticking claim off the first garage. Does sound like a dud injector, if its remapped, why did'nt they tell you before the injector. I think they are talking ($($($£($.

The car came to them in an undriveable state as the injector had already failed so it was towed to their garage. It's only after they fitted this new injector that they noted on the invoice "rattling under load - maybe needs an oil change". I had the oil changed 500 miles before the injector but I replaced the oil again and it was the same noise so I took it back to them and they said it's because it's mapped and the best thing to try first was to take it back to stock.

Isn't this pinking caused by inefficient fuel detonation? Which would be hardware (injector) related I would have thought.

Is it OK to drive in this condition? If i keep it under 1,500 i cannot hear the ticking.
