Wiper rain sensor stopped working

Featured Replies

Evening all

It seems that the rain sensor for my wipers has stopped working.

Move the wiper stalk up from the "off" position to the "variable" (rain-sensor based) position - I get one wipe, then nothing else. Not even in torrential rain / hail / snow.

Move up again to "normal", or up again to "fast" and the wipers work as expected.

I've tried all 4 sensitivity positions when in rain sensor mode, none of them work. Each time I click to the next most sensitive position, I get a single wipe then nothing (so the sensitivity switch works).

They've worked fine for the last 40k miles, and the sensor has never been disturbed since I've owned the car.

Anyone else had this issue ? Or have any idea what I could start testing ?

Thanks in advance...

You haven't inadvertently changed the position of the light switch from Auto to normal, by any chance?  That would have exactly the effect you mention.

No - headlights were turning on automatically as usual.

My auto wipers work whatever the lighting switch position , never use the auto position. Or have I misconstrued your post !

Well!

Never knew that!

I'm a bit hazy about your having tried all positions.

On our Pugs a 'flick wipe' also activates/deactivates the auto function.

I guess that's not news to you with regard to most eu cars these days.

I've just had my rain sensor replaced under warranty for the same issue, now it works fine.
