Maybe a Mule testing the Skoda Kodiaq (Kodiak) drivetrains before the Volkswagen Group get around to announcing that they will

introduce the New Skoda in the United States and Canada.?

The Skoda Kodiaq / Global Car.  Hybrid Technology being introduced since VW's reputation & Green credentials are down the pan.

Could be, although it's a 280 rear ;)

That will surprise a few.

I suspect... the VW/Audi badge has taken such a hit that SKODA and lesser SEAT are new marques... I think we'll be in the US soon.

Question is... will the tyres be different?

What ever it is it works,

now on the Internet and getting looks and comments and bringing Skoda to the attention of North Americans.

Very very easy to do Commando Advertising with a few well placed pictures on Twitter etc.

Much cheaper than needing to wine and dine Motoring Journalists.

Forums are the big thing now, it catches out Manufacturers lies, and is good for Car Spotting Spies.

NICE PLACEMENT OF THE BAG OF FREEBIES, **SKODA** BAG.

The consumer diesel market in America is pretty much owned by German brands. There is close to no competition and it expands the German brand's footprint which further helps brand recognition and uptake in petrol cars. The American car manufacturers don't like it.

It is one of the reasons the American government has gone after VW with such ferocity. It is a backdoor route to suppressing German car sales after much pressure from American makers. A form of international trade manipulation unfortunately handed to them on a plate by VW.

Clever move if they can introduce Skoda and Seat brands without the press linking them to VW. If they introduce the new generation diesels only, the press wil not be able to say Skoda and Seat have (now or ever) dirty diesels in America for fear of being sued.

Spot on. Why would anyone drive around the centre of Prague for any other reason than getting spotted? Simply clever.

A LWB Skoda Yeti, ? one that Skoda CZ never actually produced for sale!

Nice that Skoda CZ had a person with a camera ready to catch it & get it online.

I would think so, I have a friend who lives in Detroit, he cannot understand how our tyres struggle to last 20K, he expects at least 60K from his!

Kodiak appears to have 2WD in this video. Wheel spin front axle only as it enters the transporter.

Maybe folks in the US will trust the Skoda brand more in the wake of the emissions scandal. If Skoda is totally new to the market, then it doesn't have a chequered past.

The new Superb is not affected so seems logical that it should be introduced to the US market as a Passat/A4 alternative that meets emission specs from the start.

Re post #9

A Vision S Concept without door handles, might well be 2 WD.

Have Skoda or the VW Group that tried to Trade Mark 'Kodiaq' World Wide yet confirmed they can?

Kodiak Cars and Light Trucks already existing, (Chevrolet)

are they buying the Rights to the name?

Then the Yamaha Kodiak ATV's.

Yeah my mate is the same.. The tyres on the front that is :)

But when you don't have bends and roundabouts the wear is so limited.

Unless it's just for hot weather testing on a new hybrid/electric drive for the Superb, which we know is coming.

And the Kodiaq looked like it was being filmed from a Mk3 Superb. Coincidence, no?  :nerd:

Got to be a hybrid test bed. Skoda badge means nothing to americans.

^^^ Meant nothing to Australians not so long ago.

Getting big upped now by Skoda CZ how well they are selling.

A 280bhp plus 4x4 petrol with a electric motor somewhere to give 40 co2 would be ideal pls skoda.

A 280bhp plus 4x4 petrol with a electric motor somewhere to give 40 co2 would be ideal pls skoda.

That would be my next car if it happens, but doubt it will.

More like that they would couple the electric with the 1.4 petrol and only 2wd.

The Hybrid will be a 1.4TSI 2WD with an electric motor stuffed in front of the DSG housing.

Something powering the rear wheels via an electric motor would be nice. Maybe that will come in the future. I don't know if MQB has been designed with that in mind, but there's plenty of room for a motor where the rear diff would go on a normal 4x4.

Actually they 'Skoda'/ VW say it is a 1.4 TSI Engine in the front and Rear Wheel Drive Electric Motor for the Kodiaq.

As the new VW / Audi's will be.

(Maybe even 1.0 TSI with Electric Superchargers in some World Regions.)

Simpler on the DSG & Front Drive, and the Drivetrain at the rear.

Better System than a FWD Golf GTE / Audi e-tronic.

I think that Kodiak needs bigger alloys [emoji15]

This is really weird because – in my view – the prospect of VW Group launching either the Skoda, or even Seat, brand in the US is so extremely unlikely.

Even before the diesel scandal broke, the USA was the one major market in the world where the VW brand really struggled. To think they would now consider introducing Skoda – where the essence of the business model seems to be ‘a bit more VW for a bit less than VW money’ – sounds bonkers. Worse still, what if people catch on that Audis are basically cut from the same cloth as well?

On top of all that, the US car market is by far the world’s most competitive; the toughest one to crack. To have any hope of doing just that, a car company (or brand) would have to invest very heavily indeed; probably swallowing losses for years to come. Would / could VW do that just at a time when major cut-backs have to be made within the Group to pay for the self-inflicted mess?

I would be amazed, and put the probability in the same territory as last September’s 5000:1 for Leicester City winning the Premier League.

Audi and Porsche very much involved in the US. With the emissions scandal. Many Americans are called Billy but not Silly. For small AWD SUV'S they are buying from Subaru dealerships. The VW group have manufacturers in North America, but also in South America, engine plants for Audi in South America where the big new markets are. Doris Day sang the Song that said it all really.

.

I'm not sure, but I have a feeling Audi is also much lower positioned in the USA compared to Europe. You have Mercedes and BMW, but when travelling there, I never saw an Audi.

.....or maybe the 280 pipes are fake and it's an all electric Tesla competitor.
