2.0tdi 150 - Warm up time.... if your in Yorkshire!

There are plenty of threads about diesel engines and slow warm up times...  but these warm up times are subjective to the type of driving you do, route, etc...

Just thought i would monitor the warm up time on my SE Business today as i have never struggled with warm up times due to where i live (full of hills.)

Taken  from a cold overnight start up ..

13 mins later - 4 miles.

low avg speed and low MPG which is more than expected !!!

The route involved around 1000ft of climbing so the engine is under load for the full duration of the drive.

The will also notice the miles left in tank reduces from 170 miles to 125 miles in only 5 miles of driving... but this will recover again.....

West Yorkshire :-)

I'm in Yorkshire, but on the edge of the Vale of York so not many hills. My commute to work in my 2.0 150 takes under 15 mins and the temp rarely reaches 90 but the overall economy is still at 51.4 which is remarkable IMO. There is a strong link with engine heat and economy, with the recent spell of warm weather it's now reaching 90 temp on the commute and the economy has jumped to 53.4. On a longer run when the engines hits 95+ I'm easily getting 57+ average mpg.

Snap - we could start a Briskoda Superb 3 Halifax Chapter LOL!!

I'm in Elland, by the time I'm up the bypass the coolant is somewhere near up to temp. When we had the cold weather I was averaging 43-45mpg over a tank. The last tank was 54mpg (I carry quite a bit of weight and step ladders on the roof). Seems more sensitive to temperature than any of my previous cars. Also the gearbox is so much smoother in warm weather.
