standing water hatchback

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've guessing I'm not alone but here goes. If I park my car nose down on my drive or hill then it rains or I wash it. Open the boot on my vrs hatchback and Hay presto theres loads of water rushing into my boot from the runners on each side of the car.

There seems to be a dip on each side where the water collects, and has nowhere to go.

Anyone else noticed this?

Yep happens every time

Yep, happens to me too.

Yeah just poor design

Ditto. Went all over my daughter's head first time and the back seat where she was sitting. That wasn't even pointing down hill, was on the flat.

It was first noticed on the MkII Octy and obviously ignored when designing the MKIII.

I believe the solution they came up with (apart from trade it in for an estate!), open the hatch slowly to allow the water to run off.

Some people tried using silicon sealant, rubber tubing and moving to the Sahara.

Same here but not quite as bad as the Octy2. Before I open the hatch if there is quite a bit of standing water on it I just sweep it off with my hand. Better a wet hand than a car full of water. Poor design but hey ho still like the car.

................then you'll you end up with a boot full of Sand.

It's really a poor poor design then.

I'm tempted to drill a small hole and fit some kind of drain pipe. Couple of mm not a house one!

Most hatchback cars with a large area of glass do it, you should have seen the Ford Puma.

It's made worse when the car is waxed and the water beads and sits on the paint and glass.

If the car is wet is isn't too much of a hardship to open the boot a little slower to give the water a chance to run off rather than in.

Yep only answer I've found is to open the hatch slowly, then most of the water ends up in the drainage channels.

opening it slower doesnt make any difference as the water will already be in the runners either side of the boot. When i open it theres no standing water on the glass etc

Park facing the other way?

I understand now.

It must be quite some gradient to fill the channel to the point it sits above the level of the boot seal without first draining away past the rear lights?
