Washer nozzle retrofit (heated version)

Featured Replies

I was thoroughly disappointed with the crappy washer nozzles Skoda decided to fit on the Mk3 Superb. So much so that I did some research into an alternative.

The new fan style washers I ordered have the part number: 2KD 955 986. I ordered them from an eBay seller in Turkey: £30 including postage for the pair. They arrived in about a week.

The existing nozzles have a part number starting 3V0 which suggests they were designed specifically for the Mk3 Superb, rather than being pinched from another VAG car. It would be interesting to know what the nozzle part numbers are on the new Passat, seeing at it's very similar to the Superb.

Both fan washer nozzles have identical part numbers, the existing water pistol type washers are numbered slightly differently and are labelled 'L' and 'R'. The labelling is obvious but the reason is not, I can't remember if the old nozzle pattern was asymmetric, and left/right dependant perhaps?

Anyway. The old nozzles pop out quite easily. I used a small trim removal tool and gently prized them out so as not to damage the paint.

My nozzles are heated, so there is the additional step of disconnecting the small electrical connector, easily done with a Leatherman's needle nose pliers.

I don't know the part number for non heated nozzles, but I would guess they would work equally well on a car without heated nozzles, maybe a little more expensive than non heated ones.

The water hose has a small plastic collar that secures it to the nozzle, this can be gently rotated by 90 degrees to release the hose.

Installation of the new nozzle is simply the reverse: the electrical connector simply pushes back in with a click when it's fully home. The hose pushes all the way home onto the nozzle, the little collar rotates back round and clicks into place. A GENTLE tug of the hose will verify if it is secure or not.

Up/Down adjustment of the nozzles are via a small slot head screw next to the nozzle, where it actually fires at the screen. A little bit of fine tuning and it's all done. Overall it's a 20 minute job with some fettling of the washer height.

The new spray pattern is more than acceptable. I might have to fine tune it a little, once I've driven the car and used them a bit more.

There is a little bit of overspray, but it's no worse than the nozzles on my Mk2 Superb, or Octavias before that.

I am very unhappy with the windscreen washer on my Superb, its a shame Skoda arent more interested in resolving the poor spray pattern of the OE washer nozzles...

Looks like you have a good cost effective fix. Well done

Thanks.

Some people may not understand how annoying something like this really is, or how it spoils the experience of the whole car.

Spot on DSTEV2000, good job. I'm thoroughly peeved of with them, it's penny pinching.

Do you have a link to the eBay seller?

Especially when you've paid £50 for them to run a bit of copper wire to them too, because that's pretty much all the heated part is.

Still a while before mine arrives (2 weeks after ordering and still no build week) but I'd like an eBay link too please if possible.

This is the item in question: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Golf-Jetta-Passat-Caddy-Heated-Front-Windscreen-Washer-Spray-Jet-Nozzle-/182020518770?hash=item2a6144b372:g:74YAAOSw9mFWLRJd

Interestingly, the seller has quoted the part number 5M0 956C 9B9 but the part I got was actually the one I quoted in my original post

Despite the apparent mix up. The part I received is the correct part and was a perfect fit.

I hope it isn't some sort of brand differentiation crap between Skoda and VW! I can't see any other logical reason for moving away from a tried and tested design of washer nozzle.

Quick search does find the same part both available in the UK and also much cheaper, so I've got someone looking into it for me to see whether i can get supply in the UK.

Am I reading this right?

The MkIII Superb doesn't have fan jets!?

A mistake by Skoda UK, surely?

In answer to your 3 questions: Yes, Correct, and Yes.

The ones I ordered were a bit of a punt in all fairness. I wasn't 100% sure that they would actually fit, let alone be compatible with the heater cable plugs. If you can get them cheaper in the UK then so much the better.

With the part numbers you should be able to wander into any VAG dealer and order them.

I still don't understand why the original nozzles were actually fitted. It's genuinely baffling!

I've used mine a few times whilst on the move and they work perfectly at speed. SO much better than the useless water pistols that preceded them.

Anyone has the part number for the non-heated ones please?

I'm still 100% happy with mine. Best retrofit to date. Next: MY17 frameless rear view mirror  :giggle: The MY16 mirror looks a bit cheap compared to the new one  :peek:

Nozzles can be sourced on eBay for $7 a piece including shipping :)

Thanks a lot MartiniB for this spare part number.

Ordered 2 days ago from E-bay and fitted today.

5 min job and now it looks finally like modern car nozzles :-)

The best £20 spent recently.

But honestly, what's the difference in price for factory between current fitted and those for Passat? I think there is no real one, so why the heck they fitting that crap for the most representative Skoda now?

You buying not that cheap car, with luxury equipment and crappy windscreen nozzles. A bit shame for Skoda I think.

My washers on my seem to be fine for the range... theres are 2 main jets of water and then 2 further jets a bit like a fan (not like the passat i made add)

the jets hit the screen on both sides ok, upper and central.

But honestly, what's the difference in price for factory between current fitted and those for Passat?

i don't think there is any difference, just they have to be little bit worse than big brother have

we can only guess what else parts are developed by down engineering department

  • 3 weeks later...

Are you sure this is a fault? I actually think the jet spray works better than the fan spray on my previous S2.

I have semi-fan like on my S3 though: On each side, there are 3 jets. The outer ones are fan like and the other 4 are jets.

Edited by difference

And the spray pattern in dstev2000's picture looks a bit low/weak? Will it not hit only in the bottom of the wind screen at high speeds?

Maybe he didn't set them to the car. My ones aren't that low. But I spent some time on regulation. Still in my opinion those from Passat are better. More even cover over windshield and I think it uses less fluid for this same job. But like for most of the stuff. It's a matter of preference.

The rear one is worse I think. It only gives a bit of mist at the top. The rest goes more or less to the side. Maybe I have to regulate it a bit.

I don´t think it is possible to regulate. So far it is the only thing that I don´t agree with the S3. The designers made a mistake here.

yeah the rear one is a fixed plastic nozzle in the led brake light. It needs more pressure to blast it across the screen or designed into the centre or wiper.

My fronts will wet the rear window fractionally if parked up which demostrates they are set to their peak with no airflow on the front screw
