2009 Scout 2ltr TDi BMM cleaning inlet manifold ?

Featured Replies

Hi All, I am cleaning my scouts EGR and inlets, can the inlet manifold come off without taking off the turbo ? and its at the back of the engine ! acording to some instructions I have to remove the turbo and a driveshaft ! it looks as though one of the manifold bolts is hard to get at ? cheers Stuart

Well I have started the job and its a swine as you have to reach right over to the back of the engine ! and now the DPF is in the way but I will carry on until I remove the turbo and inlet manifold and clean them up, is there a way of restricting the 'dirty' gases so it wont clog up as much ? and can I reuse the gaskets and add some gasket sealer so they bed in OK. cheers Stuart

Running the crank case breather through a catch can would help with the gunk.

Hi trundlenut, Can you buy these for the scout or would you have to modify some tubing ? have you ever taken a turbo off on a 4x4 or scout ? if so any tips, cheers Stuart

New gaskets, do not use sealer.

Thanks for that tech1e, can I move the DPF to one side so I can get to the screws at the back ? cheers Stuart

Yup

The cans themselves are pretty generic, you need to sort out the pipework though.  I tried fitting the old can off my mkI to mine but I couldn't get all sealed and arranged satisfactorily, so I took it off.  Never had time to have another go at fitting it.

Hi there! I came across this thread and saw that you successfully removed the intake manifold on a BMM 4x4. Did you manage to do it without taking the turbo off, or was it necessary? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Alex, Carn't remember and ive changed the car now, I normally make notes when taking things apart so I will have a look to see if there still around.

Hi, thanks for the reply! If you happen to find the notes or remember anything in the meantime, it would really help.

My intake manifold is quite clogged and I haven't found a good solution so far, I tried using intake cleaner spray, but it didn’t help much.
