Car Accident

Featured Replies

So, today I was waiting to pull out from a parking lot and waited for traffic to clear, there were three cars indicating to turn left (I am in AustraliA) into the parking lot I was coming out of. The first car has slowed enough to make the turn and i, being a little impatient pull out and drive off. Low and behold this first car continues straight ahead and smashes into the side of me at around 20kph.

My fault and this not what I am here to complain or talk about.

So, stuck half way across the lane, I indicate and try to move to the side of the road. Put it into drive and try to accelerate and all I get is a grinding noise and no movement forward or backwards. The steering is not working and I can't drive it.

What is even more bizarre is when I get out of the car, there is no damage at all to the car that can be seen. It appears to me that the car has impacted the front wheel and broken the drive shaft!

I just can't believe there is no side impact damage. It's going to be interesting to see what damage is reported from the car repairer.

Has anyone gas anything similar happen?

Sounds like it hit the wheel and missed the bodywork.

Difficult to tell, but probably should get the suspension mounting points checked, and may have bent some suspension components.

If it broke the drive shaft, was the steering at quite an angle, could potentially be a problem if the shaft into diff/gearbox has a huge end load as could have displaced something or damaged a bearing.

Sorry to hear of your woes.

Oooh, sounds like alot of shock-load through thr drive train. At least you're OK, and the other driver, also, presumably. Hope it all pans out OK.

If my mind still serves me, which is highly unlikely, the ECU in case of a registered crash will shut off a lot of functions. I think you will find more explained in the manual.

Assumptions (you in this case, 'Skodafabiaperth) ) can cause lots of pain and suffering I have found through some hard experience..

Glad no-one is hurt, as to your car, well that can be fixed whatever the damage..

So the insurance assessor called. Broken right hand drive shaft, damaged suspension, replacement of tie rod ends and that is it! No panel damage so as soon as the parts arrive from Melbourne or Sydney, I am back in business!

Surely the assessor checked and the repairer will, but be sure the Alloy Wheel is checked, for trueness and any fractures,

and maybe ask the repairing Dealerships Master Tech if the Alloy Wheel should maybe be replaced.

I thought you were in Perth Scotland, i missed the I am in Australia.

silly me.
