Dash illumination blinks when music volume is high...

Featured Replies

I've got the standard Alpine Mp3 in dash CD-player which comes with the Octavia RS.I did not change th system as the dealer was a bit fussy on the warranty.

But the original speakers were not worth it.

So i got a pair of Blaupunkt Velocity component speakers (did'nt want to cut the parcel tray) and added an amp to the speakers. For the bass i got a passive JBL bass tube and one more amp dedicated to the bass tube.

After all this I noticed that when I use the music system at high volume, the dash illumination, climatronic illumination flickers. (in sync with the bass)

Obviously it's the two amps which are loading the system.

Should i be worried about this or is it ok?

The flickering is not huge, u have to concentrate on it to make it out.

Nothing much to worry about.

It's normal when you have a couple of amps in there.

Just one thing though , where do you have the power supply for the amps coming from? It should be off a separate fused circuit from the battery

didnt think the standard unit was an Alpine but i could be wrong... also IIRC mine had a casette up front and a 6 disc changer in the boot so times and kit may have changed since 2003.

anyway, the pulsing is down the the load the amps are putting on the car, you probably wont notice it at all when the revs are reasonably high i.e. your moving along as the alternator will be pumping enough juice into the battery to keep things sorted.

at idle the pulsing will be noticable, it is in mine and i only have 1 amp, the pioneer speakers i'm running are fed by the pioneer head unit in place.

i'm surprised the dealer was unhappy about you changing the HU, with the right ISO connector theres no reason why an after market HU can be used and they dont cause any errors on the ECU...

Might be a standard fit in India.

Yea the power is from directly from the battery with a fuse in the middle.

thanks for info. puts my mind to rest.

Well the Alpine is standard in India, only on the RS though. It's a nice unit too. The latest Alpine Inet series. It's Ipod ready and XM-Radio ready.

I was quite impressed that they gave a top notch Head Unit standard.
