URGENT help required

Featured Replies

my Fabia vrs has just started to rev on its own between gears. Not just slightly but all the way to the red line, only above a certain speed from what I can make out. If I go into the next gear obviously the drivetrain keeps the revs down but there is a slight pull when it engages the next gear like it is still applying throttle. Also had a problem with my brakes earlier where they works and while holding down the brake pedal they went solid and had no feel or braking power. Idles fine sat on the driveway but after it has had a few episodes of this, if I coast the revs will sit at around 2000rpm, if I dip the clutch it goes to zero and then if I continue to coast again it will return to around the 2k mark, after a few times this will stop.

HELP ME

I need the car for work tomorrow!

Throttle switch? Sounds like it is sticking. Mine sometimes revs high all of a sudden in neutral or when cooling down, I solve it by 'pulling' the pedal up with my toe.
Not sure about the Brakes though sorry. What condition are your discs pads and calipers in? Have you changed the brake fluid recently / at all ?

JRJG

Vacume pipe, it's split so the engines sucking in extra air making it rev and the vacume is leaking so the brakes arnt as good.

It has to be the throttle sticking unless it's burning oil instead of fuel, it can't be air Hutchy, it's a diesel, so no throttle butterfly.

Changed the clutch switch today to no avail. Not sure on the throttle switch as when I lift it from the floor it makes no difference, it also only seems to do it in third gear upwards. I applied the brakes early and it lowered the revs to normal so have ordered a brake switch too just in case and they are cheap. I have checked all the vacuum lines and they seem fine

Bit of a long shot - Why not do an ECU reset just in case it's something simple that needs resetting.

Switch off ALL electrics and disconnect the negative battery connector, wait 30 minutes, then reconnect and without touching any pedals start up and leave to idle for 30 minutes.
