Skoda Fabia II Pre-FL Roofbars

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Was thinking about getting a Thule roof rack for my Skoda Fabia 3 hatchback. Probably the Thule wing bars (black edition) and I really like the look of the Thule fairing once the Roofbars are on although I'll have to order that from the US. I don't have any purpose for the roof rack I would only be buying it purely for looks. I don't know if I should go for it or maybe it's a lot of money for a silly idea.

I have pressed plates, yellow fogs etc so really going for the 'euro' look

What do you guys think?

Cheers

A

@32KOFDATA nahh I meant the '3' as in the pre FL trim levels 1,2,3. I can confirm that it is a mark 2 pre FL fabia

I just had a Email from Amazon showing the Thule Wind Fairing.

Thule 870XT '32"'

@ the crazy price of £187.90 with free delivery from 'Link Inovation'.

The thing about roof bars/racks is that they will eat into your MPG so fitting one will cost a lump AND keep costing, unless you remove it when not in use (As advised almost everywhere). Additionally, think how gutted you will feel if you return to your car one day and find your "As new, virtually unused" expensive set of luggage carrying hardware, somewhat missing from its location... Now think on, some greedy, self serving person with questionable parentage is happily driving up and down the length and breadth of this great country, smiling broadly as they can now carry extra suitcases, bikes and their granny, free, as someone made the mistake of leaving an unloaded, high quality roof rack not quite securely as they had thought, to the roof of an unguarded vehicle!  :rain:

For what it's worth I have standard Thule bars on my Fabia Estate and it is surprising just how often they are useful. Just yesterday I found myself strapping a flatpack to the roof that didn't QUITE fit inside as expected.

The bars are old as I have moved them between every car I have owned for the past 20 years and have locks to prevent said scum from nicking them. They make a small noise at high speed but I have made fuel calculations with and without and not been able to measure a difference. That's not to say that it is not there, just that it is so small I can't tell. I did experiment with Thule Aerobars a few years back but I could't get any of the accessories to go round them which made them almost useless (roof box, bike carrier, ski carrier etc) so I sold the Aerobars on.

If going Euro Look i think it needs the Roof Rack not bars and a Spare Wheel on it and Steel Wheels.

Not seen it done on a Fabia & i somehow think it will look too tall and skinny even slammed.
