TDi Fun......

Featured Replies

I knew the TDI would be a tight fit after working on a 1.9D, but I didn't realise they were that bad.

That car had a rough life... no way he'll get that money.

Agree with Ricardo! Despite he sells something not very common his asking price is miles away from reality.

To be fair, it's scruffy, but it looks basically solid. When you see what some people are paying for utter rotters, it's not unreasonable.

Would I buy it though? Probably not

As it's a T it will probably have the cloth interior not the leather one, probably why there's no interior pictures. (The early door-card were fairly hideous)

All I saw was another Fun that's been fecked up. There's precious few of these left, and it seems that people are hell-bent on destroying them. At some point in it's life, someone had had a fire in the back of one of mine (the wood was burnt and alligatored). People have treated a lot of these are proper, full-on work-horses. Good examples are now sadly few and far between

I think the only reason why some people treated Funs that bad is they said "Heck, it's a Skoda. A car made in a poor, communist, 3rd world country." Put a German or American badge on it and the same people would wash their hands and dress nice before even touching the car. Stupidity and arrogance.

Imagine it had VW Caddy badges, like they did to the Hilux's when they renamed them as Taro's for the German market!

Hey guys new here and looking to buy a Fun for myself.

I like the sound of a Diesel one personally and they seem kinda rare, I assume there never was a diesel version offered officially?

I had independently found that one on ebay and thought it looked all right, if a little tatty. You guys seem really not keen on it. Why so?

Correct. UK spec didn't include 1.3i or 1.9d, although I believe the european ones did. (Along with yellow/orange and yellow/green colour schemes, and a different box on the back.

Given that the normal pickups could have 1.9d, I can see no reason that one can't be wholly transplanted into a Fun without any butchering.

From a personal stand point (and having owned 2 of these) tattyness means that it's had a hard life. The original trucks were not overly hardy, and were prone to rust (especially the rear suspension towers) and the Funs were no exception to this. From what I understand Funs were supposed to be on the lighter side of things, the first owner of mine carried surf-boards in it, and were never meant to be work-horses. In the example above; the load area is scraped all over, to the point that the wooden slats on the bed are not there, te back bumper is broken, the rear turrets are going to need some serious attention soon, there's a lot of rust that can be seen (which implies the tailgate is probably shot too), the leather seats are filthy, the leather steering wheel is held together with electrical tape, the current owner didn't even bother taking the rubbish out of it to take photos. It's not a Fun that has been cared for, let alone loved. Oh and the original wheels are gone too, and not to mention the whole "it's got a TDi" thing.

On the plus side: time and patience, and a lot of looking around, and you might find enough to restore it to a former glory. Also it has component speakers and electric windows. (That's the end of what plus points I cound find.)

Ah haha

Its nice to have someone with experience point out all of the things I wouldn't have thought of. Probably give this one a wide berth then, I don't mind a project but that sounds like way too much more me. Thanks :)

The biggest no-no: it's a diesel. A 47kW diesel. Not that 1.6 l engines are better...
