a/c not working still after being re gassed

Featured Replies

Hi I recently bought a octavia vrs tdi and the Air con wasn't great, so I booked it in for a re gas but it's still no better, has anyone got any ideas what it is pls?

It needs diagnosis by a competant AC engineer. Could be one of many things, a fault code scan would pick up anything obvious.

It isn't something daft, like you've set the system to "Econ" mode, which disables the AC pump?

Educated guess I'd look at the a/c compressor. I havnt came across a vag car of that age yet that either doesn't need one or has already had one. My mk2 vrs had had one just before i bought it, that was 69k 07 plate. My mates 08 Mk5 Golf gt was blowing warm air traced to compressor and my current car Seat Leon fr 07 plate 53k needed a new one last year!!

Good point but I'm presuming whoever regassed it checked for leaks first.

Don't they just re-gas  the AC and put a dye in to see whee it's leaking

That's technically an illegal practice now.

Which practice is illegal? Using the dye or regassing before a leak check?

Regassing a system with a known leak with refrigerant is illegal and carries a very hefty fine is caught (however unlikely that may be).

Mine ended up being the High Pressure Sensor recently. I had intermittent AC working. I noticed on VCDS it was flagging this as a fault but also low pressure of the refrigerant.

2 Faults Found:

00819 - High Pressure Sensor (G65)
009 - Open or Short to Ground - Intermittent
00229 - Refrigerant Pressure
            002 - Lower Limit Exceeded - Intermittent

Checking the measuring blocks showed the bar pressure value being all over the shop so it was certainly the sensor.

The old sensor from my 06 plate needed a gas change (full vacuum and new gas and oil) since as soon as it was loosened some gas would escape. A pig of a job apparently but was done from under the car just by removing the under tray.

No bumper to come off or anything.

This part has been replaced with a newer type sensor to allow swap out without loosing pressure.

Thanks for all the info guys, now to find a AC specialist close to me that won't charge me a fortune to fix

Reset fan's. Hold ac and front vent button in until green lights start to flash. You will hear vents moving around. This cured mine as I got a regas and still wasn't cold.

Done this the other week after suffering for months now cold as ice.

Just to let u know, I took my car to a AC specialist today and it was diagnosed with a faulty high pressure switch, causing the gas to leak out, thank you again for the advice guys

Glad it's sorted out but it may be helpful for others in future if you post any part numbers if you have them. Also how much did it cost to get it fixed?
