Apple CarPlay via Mirrorlink

Featured Replies

Hi, just about to order a new Fabia SEL and not sure whether I need to spec voice control in order to make a receive hands free calls etc. I have an iPhone 6 Plus and see that it can link to the car via Mirrorlink so will this negate the need for the Skoda voice control? Many thanks.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you're talking about 2 separate systems there.

Apple phones work with Car Play, or spec the bluetooth system.

Mirror link and Android auto are for Android phones.

Make sure your Fabia has steering wheel controls, Bluetooth and voice and you should be OK.

Thanks for clarifying that. I understand SEL comes with steering wheel controls, Bluetooth and voice button, but I'm not sure whether I have to spec the £30 additional voice control to be able to make and receive hands free calls via CarPlay? Don't want to pay out for it if it's not required.

For £30 spec it,your not from Yorkshire or Scotland are you?

You'd be able to do do hands-free calls, whether it's linked up with CarPlay or not, as every Fabia III in the UK has bluetooth. I seem to remember seeing somewhere on here that you can press and hold the voice button to bring up the phone's voice control, whereas just pressing it quickly brings up the car's built-in voice control system, if that's fitted.

Glosrich it's not the £30 but the 10 to 12 week delivery for a factory ordered car that I would prefer to avoid. Sent from the sunny south coast......

I think there is a bit of confusion.

You don't need voice control to make and receive hands free calls. That can be done over mirrorlink or standard Bluetooth.

Also I have the standard SEL and when connected to my android phone over mirrorlink I can press and hold the voice button on the steering wheel and talk to. Google so would guess on Apple it talks to siri but can't not 100% sure.

My Motorola E works with Android Auto, and the voice control on the steering wheel works on Google maps and lots of other stuff.

I have an SE L with a Bolero unit.

If you've got CarPlay I don't think you *really* need the voice control option, because CarPlay uses Siri anyway, and works with that button (which is still there regardless of whether you've specified it to work).

If you ever wanted to make calls by speaking to the car outside of CarPlay, using the Skoda system, then I think you'd need to spec it.

Thank you all for the advice, I will press on an order the car without voice control.

The voice control isn't just for making calls! You can use it to change albums, tracks, radio station, input source etc...

This might be a bit late, but you don't need it spec'd to use Siri (and I'm assuming Google Voice Assistant). You just hold it down and although it comes up on the Dot-Matrix 'Not Available' Siri then works through the screen. :)
