Other than (less than) paper thin like paint, a new annoyance

Featured Replies

I was on hols, and managed to lose a whole parking ticket and then the pen needed to attempt to retrieve it out the dash !

The dash gap is like a tardis back there but not in a good way.

Not wide enough to get your fingers into but seriously wide enough to lose any manner of things you might yourself leaving on the dash.

Seriously crap design Skoda. How am I supposed to get the **** out of there now? Dissemble the dash?

I'm glad I only bought this 2nd. If it was 1st hand I would be going in to a dealer with a portable guilliotine

Great car, but the easy scratch ( no thickness) black paint, front assist ( or unclear handling), chasm for a dashboard gap, and so on, would definitely prevent me buying one brand new.

I'm sorry but I had a little giggle at the sight of you losing a whole pen behind the dash!

It is pretty poor, I shall have to check and see if mine has a sizeable gap

Did you not use the "simply clever" parking ticket holder?

I don't think I have one on mine, quite possible it had a replacement screen at some point. What does the holder look like ?

The gap is enough to push your finger down, just about, but not enough to pull anything out no way.

I've currently got a 12 plate Passat estate (vRS arriving in June) and lost a parking ticket down the front of the dash yesterday.

Claim my parking back through work, so literally watching my money slip away into the black hole beneath the windscreen!! [emoji35][emoji23]

Use a plastic ruler to flick it up.

EDIT

DISCLAIMER;I currently have Bubonic Manflu, so may be hallucinating.

I'm pretty certain when my laminated car pass (for a certain submarine Base on the Clyde!) slipped down that gap and annoyed the cr@p out of me as it slid from one side to the other along the gap every time I turned, I was able either to push the pass down the gap with a ruler, or carefully prise the gap open slightly wider with a thin icescraper for the pass to fall into the footwell.

Right you are, I didn't even think about that to be honest, thought it was a pen holder and not tense enough to hold a ticket but obviously stand corrected.

The dash design is still $h!t though !

It wasn't even my pen it was my mothers and she said it was her favourite lol. You are missing the point somewhat. What if it was something else. Bank card ?

You'd have to order a new one

I don't want to sound like a troll but....

Whilst black is no doubt one of the most beautiful colours, modern water based paint is absolutely pathetic and will chip and scratch iself to a piece of modern art with very little help. Would happen if you bought an A8, a golf R or the octavia to be fair!

Hope you find the ticket, and the pen!

Lessons learned here. Don't put **** all on top of the dash. My other half had some old fabia years ago and had something on the dash. It was summertime so windows were open she drove around a corner as some speed and the item on the dash made and abrupt exit out the open window. Too funny!

Back in 2013 after six (near) faultless years with my Mk2 Octavia I suddenly got this terrible thrumming noise through the air vents.

Fearing that either a blade had come off the fan or the motor was disintegrating I googled the problem and found the Briskoda.forum.where someone reported a similar problem but not was their fix was.

Other threads gave guidance on how to remove the glove box and cabin filter and access/remove the ventilation motor and found a paper car park pay/display ticket had found its way off the dash/windscreen, past the filter and onto the vent motor so interfering the air-flow (it was very like the thrumming/pressure noise you get when you drive with one open window).

In our city the pay/display tickets have to be on the dash on the left side. This one got away from my wife and it took 3 years to work its way onto the vent fan

Anyway problem fixed at no cost and very happy, but I thought it right to become a Briskoda member and update the original thread with the cause and fix for my particular problem. Now 500+ posts later....

In relation to the paintwork, I have no complaints about mine but I can understand there could be some variance in what comes out the factory (how long would it take the supervisor to notice the robot's spray was partially blocked?).

At last year's first annual service (car not church) the subject of paint came up (I had requested they not clean the car which caused a bit of confusion) and the service guy, who had worked previously at a Suzuki dealership, said one of the few ongoing complaints that brand had was how soft their paint was, and how resilient the Skoda's was (by comparison).

why would you put your bank card on the dash?

Sorry pal, but I'm not sure there is a point here other than use your ticket holder on the windscreen next time. But sorry for your (mothers) loss all the same. Ha ha. I do agree with you on the paint though.

Modern water based paint is the basecoat not the clearcoat so irrelevent to what your suggesting, the uhs (ultra high solid) clearcoats are so much better now than they used to be, but as another poster said sometimes in the factory there not to generous with there coverage not just skoda but most jap brands as well

My paint work (Pacific blue) was the example of not very generous paint application. Since my issue my dealer has had numerous problems with paint work and indeed the Pacific blue colour variant

OK, maybe I should have added a smiley face to show I was trying to add a little humour. Sorry your mother's upset about her pen.
