Spare and tools. Dealer or online?

Featured Replies

I can't live with a car without a spare.

My previous Superb had one that I purchased when I bought it 2 years ago.

Stupidly I thought it would fit this car, which it doesn't, so I'm going to have to fork out yet again.

Best place to do so please?

Most Superb spares should fit the Octavia, what size is it?

It was  Greenline, so only a 16 inch er.

Dealer told me no anyway so I left it with them.

I'm more miffed that I can't take the wheels off today while it's sunny,  to Hammerite paint the usual rusty rear hubs.

Your Superb jack should work no problem. I'm unsure what model Octavia you've got, but I'm also certain that the 16" will at least fit the rear, if not the front. It does mean an element of messing about if you get a front puncture, but it'll be functional.

Too late now sadly.

The car complete with spare, jack etc.,now lives with its new bronze sculpture  artist owner down on the south coast 250 miles away apparently.

I think you can get the full original tool set from superskoda.com

Wheel and tyre too?  :o

Bet the carriage is expensive.

I will have a dig.

How much are the dealers charging?

IIRC I paid about £140 for the full kit on the Superb

You should be able to pick up a single 17in wheel - VW. AUDI or Skoda 5x112 from ebay and either a proper jack set and insert or make up a set cheaper than new from a dealer.  17 winch will fit over 340mm front brakes which I assume you have or the 16 inch wheel would have fitted.

Dealer quoted me £300 for a new 18" space saver and tool kit. I politely declined and bought one on eBay that was taken out of a vRS write off. Cost about £140. As mentioned above, buying a single 17" steel or alloy wheel seems to be a common solution.

Loads on eBay.

What is the maximum size diameter wheel that will fit in the space available?

Sounds like the Superb is the car for sculptors- my mum, who sculpts in stone and bronze, loves hers!

The tyres on all the Octavia wheel sizes all have approximately the same outside diameter, so all you have to check is that the wheel will fit over the front brake discs. (Is this still a problem on recent VRSes?) The issue is what width of tyre will fit into the depth of the wheel well. The 205/55 R16 definitely fits, the boot floor may not fit over wider tyres.

Doesn't live on the south coast area somewhere going by the name of Wendy by any chance?

Haha not quite! They're in Wiltshire. Plus mum bought hers new. Fantastic car, they're planning on getting another one at the end of the PCP.
