Revs jumping when clutch is pressed...

Featured Replies

I just noticed this earlier when parking the car somewhere. Is it normal? I can't recall the revs jumping around as much when pressing and releasing the clutch previously. I had a Leon 184 before this and a mk2 VRS some time back and I recall maybe a minor fluctuation when hitting the clutch on those similar to what I though I was getting in the current car. I just don't remember it being 2-250rpms worth so I said I'd ask for opinions.

That video doesn't seem to be working. This is a YouTube link.

My MKIII Tdi Vrs does this, the revs not seem to settle until you have actually stopped

I've noticed that, but this was stationary in a parking space.

I used to drive a Audi A4 B8 TDi manual. Same behaviour there. Switch on the clutchpedal, sends a signal to the ECU to throttle a bit, to minimize the chance of stalling.

Would driving style cause it to do that more?

Dont know. But once I notice something new I'm more aware of it. If its a rattle or a scratch, the car goes from the best ever, to a wreck, in an instant.

My superb does it, I think it must be a trait of the CR engine as my other PD variants never did it.

Normal, it's the anti stall.

Had mine three weeks ago and noticed the revs increase as you engage first gear. Quite like it as makes for easier crawling along in traffic. And remind me of my old Fabia VRS.

Thanks for the info.

I think I have an issue still. Went out to start it this evening and it kept asking me to depress the clutch even though it was to the floor. Kept pumping the pedal and it started after a while. Strange one. I'll get it to the dealers next week.

Sounds like a switch problem.

My thinking too. It's never been abused so I'd be shocked if it's anything mechanical.

My 2013 1.4tsi manual does the same since new - It is a feature not a fault.

I find it does not do it every time you depress the clutch or engage gear but more usually for the first change after start or when the car has been stationary for a while.

I've just noticed my car doing this now, it's a my16 diesel Vrs. Revs go from 800 to 1000 When clutch is depressed, then settles back to 800. Does the same when clutch is released too. Is this normal? Car had it's first service earlier this week, just started doing this since.

Mine does this too(66 plate vrs tdi)....i do believe it is the antistall function and it makes it much much easier to crawl the car along in traffic....

Thanks VRSmiked, glad it's not a gremlin starting. Just never noticed it before, it's maybe dependant on conditions, cold starts etc. Also had wondered if car had had a software update or something at recent service, but maybe I had just never noticed it before!

No probs mate, if you raise the clutch to move off that's when it raises for me....you'll never miss it now you know it...!

the tsi does it too, revs climb a bit if clutch is lifted and gear just engaging.  I thought it was to allow you to crawl in stop/stat traffic and keep your right foot on the brake.  It is possible anyway, if the road is fairly level.
