Where are people getting their filters from?

Featured Replies

Just having a look round and the prices for oil/fuel/air/pollen filters seem pretty varied. TPS do genuine stuff but ECP do Bosch/Mann options which I thought were generally considered oem but they're a fair bit cheaper? Any other options guys?

Also, side note, what's the point of the carbon activated pollen filters; what do they do more than the normal cheaper ones? Worth it?

Eurocarparts, there are loads of codes online for 15% or 25% off.

Free delivery and their MANN filters are OEM quality.

Just ordered a pollen filter for less than a tenner and an oil filter for less than fiver and a sump plug for £1.50.

"SERVICE15" at checkout gets 15% off.

"VB8486" from Hot Deals UK gets 18%.

I got 25% off last bank holiday weekend.

GSF have a code at the moment for 42% off this weekend using 42MAY. I just bought a MANN oil filter!

Carbon activated filters are generally used in cars with AC. This is to remove impurities from the air and have it recirculate around the AC system and into the cabin. Impurities in the air can be gaseous which is then adsorbed by the carbon which essentially turns it into a solid and traps it in the filter.

Mann actually make the filters for VAG. If you look at the filter housing bolted to the engine you may find the Mann-Hummel logo embossed in it. Usually GSF is cheaper than ECP, not always, but order at the weekend and use those discount codes that are offered every weekend.

Never really ever noticed much difference in the cabin between carbon and plain types, but then I dont live in smog laden London or Birmingham.

Note Recirc air doesnt go through the filter afaik (there would be direct path from outside to inside)

I've only ever bought filters from GSF, ECP or Carparts 4 less and have never had a problem any of them and I stick to either Mann, Bosch or occasionally Crossland filters

The carbon is an odour filter. A bit like those insoles you get for your shoes.

I too got mine from ECP on a bank holiday discount weekend. Went with Mann as I read they were VW OEM.

Older generations have the pollen filter on the suction side of the fan (scuttle panel) so when in recirc the filter has no flow through it, but more commonly they are under the glove box now which is on the discharge side of the fan therefore the recirc air is filtered. I don't think it matters in any case.

Got air filters direct from K&N. I get everything else from euro car parts or car parts direct.

Just got and fitted a MAHLE activated charcoal filter at £12 as opposed to the plain one at £9.

The one I fitted this time has a more rigid frame around the perimeter making it much easier to insert. The old plain ,MAHLE, one was pretty dirty even though I only did 4000 miles in the past year. And the sweaty socks smell got to me.

I just saw this when searching the MANN catalogue. I am not sure it was mentioned much but I don't ever see it come up in searches on car part sites.

It says the new Biofunctional filter has the activated charcoal properties plus: The new feature of the FreciousPlus cabin filter is an additional third layer. This innovative biofunctional special layer is antiallergenic and antimicrobial. Both driver and passengers are thus protected against allergens, bacteria and mould fungi. The new cabin filter absorbs up to 100 per cent of allergens. Growth of mould fungi is reduced by more than 95 per cent.

I am going to be ordering one of these for my next service!

Full Story

I remember my 85 Passat. Opening the centre vents after being closed for a while, used to get blasted by leaf debris and dead insects. Filter? Are you a sissy? Don't you know you need to build your immune system using nature's way? :) :)

HAHA!

I would rather not have a face full of leaves! Maybe flowers though ;)

I have just seen that Bosch also now offer a Filter+ range to compete with this. It seems Audi is rolling this type of filter element in its fleet now as well.

The press release mentions June onwards is when they will be available to wholesalers so I'll be 'holding my breath' until then!

It will be interesting to see this type of advertising on their vehicles.
