vRS lack of power

Featured Replies

On way back home from a spirited drive today power was WAY down and I could hear a difference.. Somethings up! No warning lights. Noise was like increase in gas

What have you changed since you got the car anything?

Are you running it on Tesco Momentum 99 or Shell V-Power Nitro+ ?

What do you mean by noise was like an increase in gas?

Sorry moderator.. mobile Issues please remove duplicates

All been fine. Is filled with momentum. Noise is like an escape of gas

Sounds like a boost leak, check the your pipes :)

I am asking if anything has been done in case you had the Spark Plugs changed,

you need to move the large Pipe to get to the drivers side plug and a vacuum  pipe and quite often this can then cause an issue because there is not a right seal with the O Ring, or a pipe is left off or not replaced securely.

Ok.. Thanks... Where am i looking? First turbo car...

No plug changes.. Going for service in couple of weeks at a revo centre

The thing is your car is not Standard.

So you need to check the Air Intake and the Induction.  Sealed.

But you have Supercharger & Turbocharger and a Stage 2 MAP.

Larger Intercooler.

So the Supercharger only operates to 3,500 rpm,

Turbo only from 3,500 rpm and on demand from 2,400 rpm to 3,500,

the Turbo Charger can be disabled if there are Misfires, that is  to protect the Engine.

Or if 1 cylinder is misfiring then another cylinder shuts down.

You get a EPC light or an Engine Emissions Control Light Warning normally if there are enough misfires.

A Pipe off would be a favourite guess,  but after visual checks you need someone to check for any Fault Codes.

?

Do you know about Heat Soak?

Unlikely unless you were really Spirited, but possible.   Best get someone who knows these cars to check, do not just go on trial and error.

Nobody that has no experience of Twinchargers.

Just in case something more major went wrong.

?

Do you know if there is a 'DV+ Diverter Valve' fitted to the car.

This is an upgrade not a standard part?

I am asking in case that is faulty, or the standard part is still fitted, it can go wrong.

Example.

First thing I'll check for any obvious hoses/pipes that are sitting right. I assume were talking engine bay.. Do I need to remove that plastic cover

I'd say just go to a garage you trust, unless it's something obvious it sounds like you may be a bit lost, or see if there's a forum member nearby who knows these engines? :)

Remove the cover and look, but do not mess about and disconnect anything,

and you might spot something obvious amiss.

But look at the Big Hard Plastic Pipe at the drivers side and see if that looks joined OK.

??

Was there little power above 2,500 RPM, and even less above 3,500 rpm which would suggest a Turbo Issue?

When I realised there was an issue I took it dead steady. But yes something like 2500 and beyond nothing there just unusual noise

Sounds like you have a boost leak, and it's most likely going to be the diverter valve at fault. It's at the front of the engine mounted to the compressor housing of the turbo. Does anyone know if the valves on these cars have the rubber diaphragm? I assume they are the later piston type but haven't needed to remove mine yet.

This will give an idea of what and where if there is a DV+ fitted, or where the standard diverter valve is.

Or to check if a Forge BOV is fitted, but i doubt that.

(Best ask Andy what was on the car.)

All looks as it does in your photos (tnanks for the photos too). There are a lot of pipes channeling around but all look in good condition & I cant see anything loose or poorly connected

Is it a Revo Stage 2 Map the car is running.

Do you know what the other mods are, did you get a list of them?

  • Author

Yes is stage 2 car. I know the mods bit dont know whether the valve is standard or not. Andy doesn't mention it so assume standard. I'll look through paperwork though

Got invoice for miltek exhaust and revo map, nothing for forge filter, springs, intercooler. No sign of anything for DV upgrade

Because the car is remapped and according to you, it has not done spark plugs change, perhaps you should check if the engine is not working smooth due to worn out spark plugs? It could partially explain boost issues (safe mode).

It was last serviced by votex and I believe the plugs are correct for the car.. What I really meant sad I've not changed plugs during my short ownership

  • Author

Do we consider it ok to drive the car.. Very Steadily.. Before its service in 10 days?
