vRS lack of power

Because the car is remapped and according to you, it has not done spark plugs change, perhaps you should check if the engine is not working smooth due to worn out spark plugs? It could partially explain boost issues (safe mode).

That wouldn't explain the new noise though would it ?

It was last serviced by votex and I believe the plugs are correct for the car.. What I really meant sad I've not changed plugs during my short ownership

What make-model are the plugs? How many miles do they have?

Do we consider it ok to drive the car.. Very Steadily.. Before its service in 10 days?

As long as I haven't seen the car in live I can't say if it is or not. Probably not.

The safe mode? There are many noises I'm afraid that can't be explained from a laptop's keyboard. Have you done any fault code reading since the problem started?

Pal at work has vcds will get him to plug in tomorrow

Do and a leak test if you have free time.

The issue about driving it now is how you were driving before power loss.

If there was no Engine Emission Control Light or EPC or both then maybe there were not Misfires,

or maybe not enough and they may not be in the Fault Codes.

But the Turbo could have shut does to save it or save the engine.

The turbo can be Inhibited and 2 cylinders shut down.

If the Car / Engine is in Limp Mode and no warning lights, that is an issue.

If the Engine is in Limp Mode with lights it is an issue.

You need the Codes Read, you need the Fault Diagnosed,

a Pipe off the Turbo, the turbo gubbed, a Spark Plug mis-firing, Cylinder 3.   Compression lost.

Hopefully just the DV faulty, or a sensor, or something minor.

Stage 2 will be running boost that might have caused issues.....

Please do not let people tamper that have no idea about Twinchargers and the various issues.

I dislike REVO Stage 1 as their maps were sh!te for the 1.4 TSI / TFSI Twincharger,

who knows what Stage 2 was.

???

Do you know what the indicated Oil Temperature was when you were driving in a spirited manner.

Were you driving using manual gear changes, and at what point did you feel a loss of power,

while driving or after easing off and going again, or after a stop?

Dont know anything about these engines, but it does sound like a diverter valve problem. I had the same symptoms on my old Golf GTI when the DV failed. The rubber diaphragm splits with age and it doesn't hold the boost. If it is that then its an easy fix, assuming it is easily accessible on the VRS. On my Monte you can see it is right there at the front of the engine bay in a very handy place.

Post#16 shows exactly where it is and the OEM and the better replacement.

Shows the inlet for the turbo where the O Rings sometimes get put back together badly when someone takes the pipe off to change the DV

or Spark Plugs.

The Connector that can detach with age and not quite put together.

All common problems, but so are others, Fuel Pressure, Inlet Manifold etc etc.

Def at supercharged revs noise comes in at 2500. Def gas leak

Supercharger is there from the off, 800rpm,  supercharger cuts out (disengages) at 3,500 rpm,

Super & Turbo operate together or can from 2,400-3.500 rpm

Turbo only from 3,500 rpm.

Best do not go giving it any hard acceleration or dropping a gear or 2, that is when you have Boost, and possible issues.

Sounds like leak with Turbo, or turbo pipe, maybe at CAT.

All guess work really until you see what is what.

You can drive easy keeping it on Supercharger and not having the Turbo come in on demand.

You can do 70 mph at 2,400-2,500 rpm on Supercharger, so 60 mph can be fine.

I would not be running it for 10 days though.

Oil temp circa 90. Box is D but using paddles. First noticed when pulling out from a junction onto a B Road

Gonna call mdmtechniq tmrw and see if can get car in asap

That probably is the best thing you can do, when a problems occurs a technician must see it in live and repair it. Everything else through keyboard is just...

Car now with MDM Technik near Marlow. They're REVO/Forge/Milltek specialists - perfect.

It's having a major service while it's there too... not quite due but as the car's new to me it's for peace of mind.

?

What do you mean by 'Major Service'.?

There is a Oil & Oil Filter Service, and a check things over,

or a Oil & Oil Filter Service and change the Pollen Filter if you want.

Anything else like Spark Plugs, Air Filter, Change the Brake fluid is as you need or want to do it.

If the Brake fluid was changes at 3 years, then the next Guideline change (schedule) is every 2 years.

So that maybe needs doing, but that depends on what has or has not been done to date,

the car might have a better Mororsport Brake Fluid in.

The news:

"Basically the boost pipe from the intercooler had come off."

So there we go!

Brilliant, that is the simplest and cheapest fix.

Just be sure of good pipes and clamps now.

  • Author

There is, however, a slight issue with the boost. He's just tested it and on 1 run it was 1.4 (great).. the next 0.9 (oh) so more investigations...

  • Author

Issue found: the boost controller and the recirculation valve are faulty.

Now all fixed & I'll be collecting the car lunchtime today. Cant wait REALLY MISS IT !

Give it 'the beans' this morning - first time since getting it back from service & fixes - an Audi was trying to park itself in my boot.

BLIMEY absolutely NOT down on power any more :)
