Suspension overhaul

Featured Replies

On 100k miles now and i've never had to replace anything on the suspension side apart from anti roll bars links and thought i'd get everything changed while fitting the new coilovers next month, ive got a list ive compiled so far just wondering if anything else is worth replacing at the same time

KW V1 coilovers

KW 22MM front anti roll bar with bushes included,
Whiteline rear anti roll bar already fitted,
Meyle HD anti roll bar links,
Powerflex Front Wishbone Rear Bushes PFF85-602,
Powerflex Front Wishbone Front Bushes PFF85-201,

Powerflex Rear Beam Mounting Bushes PFR85-415,
x2 top mounts,
x2 top mount bearings,
x2 rear top mounts,

Would it be worth replacing the engine dogbone mount at the same time to save on future labour costs or is this something i could replace fairly easily later on, ideally during my next service in about 4 months time, also if i wait until then i can replace both with the vibratechnics mounts :)

any suggestions greatly appreciated!

The front bushes are not really worth replacing if they're intact, I did mine on the 1.4 but left them original on the 2.0 and there is no detectable difference in performance at all.

The rear beam bushes and the rear top mounts are definitely not worth replacing unless actually damaged. I wouldn't bother with the front anti-roll bar either, stiffer isn't better on british roads, only on a racetrack.

Replacing the rear dogbone won't save you anything on labour and isn't necessary.

Front and rear top mounts won't need changing from my experience, just get front top mount bearings.

Have you looked into a uprated front ARB properly?

As on a lot of cars they create understeer.

Bottom balljoints and track rod ends would be much cheaper parts to replace and give you much better feel to the steering :)

Drop links?

Couldn't agree more, I replaced the top mounts on the front because they're cheap and it saves having to dismantle the front strut just to reuse the old ones. I also replaced the balljoints and TRE's although the old ones weren't knackered, just old.

Stiffer FARB worsens bump-steer dramatically when hooning around the back roads as well as making understeer worse. Stiffer FARB is for sticky track day tyres on a smooth track, nowhere else.

Drop links?

Reading comprehension FTW  :p
